Publisher's summary

Based on true events, but unlike anything you've ever heard before, number-one New York Times best-selling author Nelson DeMille has created what may be his finest work to date.

At dusk on July 17, 1996, on a deserted Long Island beach, a man and a woman engage in adulterous sex in front of a video camera. Suddenly a terrible blast lights up the dark summer sky. TWA Flight 800 has just exploded in midair with 230 souls onboard, and the video camera has recorded the last moments of the doomed airliner.

Five years later the government has declared the crash a result of mechanical failure. But John Corey, an ex-NYPD detective who is now a contract agent with the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is persuaded by Kate Mayfield, his wife and task force partner, that the case deserves a second look.

Kate, a career FBI agent, plays by the rules. Corey plays by no rules but his own. Against long odds and warnings from their superiors, they set out to reopen the case and discover its most crucial piece of evidence. The hunt will lead to a conspiracy at the highest levels and a race toward an elusive and lethal truth that could be even more horrifying than the crash of Flight 800, one with unimaginable consequences for America...and the world.

This is a treat for deMille fans

I couldn't stop until the last word...and now I want still more. I delight in John Corey's sardonic wit and his ability to put the pieces together, even when no one seems to want them put together. This book is a slight departure from the earlier deMille novels in that it is based on a true recent mystery (TWA Flt. 800) and introduces a more logical solution than "official" explanation of mechanical failure...especially in hindsight, considering the events of the past three years.

I've only recently discovered deMille's novels, but already I'm a fan for life.

good fictional story cloaked in real event

DeMille has taken the flight of TWA 800 and said "what if..." A plausible scenario that keeps you hooked. Not as much action as some of his other novels but keeps you interested and leaves you wanting more.

Excellent John Cory book

I could listen to the narrator, Scott Black for hours. Great voice- handles the fights and the dry humor so well. The storyline is mysterious and captivating. Main guest character a little hard to read. Keeps you hopping!

Starts with a bang and ends with a wimper

I enjoy Nelson DeMille's books immensely, especially when read by Scott Brick. The first DeMille book I listened to was "Mayday" (co-authored with Thomas Block). In DeMille's books the characters are believable, the dialog engaging and entertaining and the plots current and fast-paced. I especially liked John Corey's (spelling?) character. When Corey is brought to life by Scott Brick the outcome is magical.

As for Night Fall I was drawn into the story from page one and literally could not stop listening. TWA Flight 800 is a mystery that remains unsolved and was a can't miss topic for a engaging story. As the story progresses and Corey delves deeper into the mystery we are drawn back to the events around Flight 800 and DeMille does a masterful job of cranking the suspense and keeping us on the edge of our seat as it looks like he will reveal not only who was behind the crash but also possibly why they caused the tragedy.

The ending is critical to this novel so I will not say much other than I was hugely disappointed by how DeMille chose to close this story. At the end I felt cheated. Having said that; however, the rest of the novel is so good that I recommend this title, especially if you are a fan of DeMille's character John Corey.

very good, with minor flaws

What did you love best about Night Fall?

The story brings some history back to life and is told well, with a couple of flaws.

Would you be willing to try another book from Nelson DeMille? Why or why not?

I'm going through the whole John Corey series, so yes :)

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes, typically excellent.

Any additional comments?

I didn't much care for the odd anti-climactic time jump about Yemen and the ending.

A Great Read

I have been a big fan of DeMille and I think that this is his best both in terms of the subject matter and the character development. Entertaining and provacative. Highly recommended--I couldn't recharge my iPod fast enough

A Good Listen

Kept my interest throughout. The narrator did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. I came to enjoy the main character's sense of humor.
