Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE • THE BLOCKBUSTER JACK REACHER SERIES THAT INSPIRED THE STREAMING SERIES REACHER

Never Go Back is a novel of action-charged suspense starring “one of the best thriller characters at work today” (Newsweek).

Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had.

Reacher is there to meet—in person—the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone.

But it isn’t Turner behind the CO’s desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal to even think about.

When threatened, you can run or fight.

Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the army, and the FBI, and the D.C. Metro police, and four unidentified thugs.

Combining an intricate puzzle of a plot and an exciting chase for truth and justice, Lee Child puts Reacher through his paces—and makes him question who he is, what he’s done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road.

Critic reviews

"Child is a superb craftsman of suspense." (Entertainment Weekly)

“A breathless cross-country spree . . . some of the best, wiliest writing [Lee] Child has ever done . . . Child’s bodacious action hero, Jack Reacher, has already tramped through 17 novels and three e-book singles. But his latest, Never Go Back, may be the best desert island reading in the series. It’s exceptionally well plotted. And full of wild surprises. And wise about Reacher’s peculiar nature. And positively Bunyanesque in its admiring contributions to Reacher lore.” (Janet Maslin, The New York Times)

“An adrenaline-charged, action-packed thriller . . . impossible to put down.” (Lansing State Journal)

Happily Ever After, Jack Reacher Style

If you are a fan of Lee Child's Reacher novels, I don't think you will be disappointed with this latest offering. If you are thinking of making this novel your introduction to Reacher, I think you'd be better served by starting at the beginning with "Killing Floor" and working your way forward.

The novels go by rapidly, they are interesting and fun and all make a kind of logical sense when listened to as a series.

Also . . . I would like to take this opportunity to state, unequivocally, that Jack Reacher does not look anything like Tom Cruise.

Really enjoyable, but confusing

Would you listen to Never Go Back again? Why?

I would have to, because I really didn't get the plot, as to why Reacher was in trouble, but I enjoyed it, just couldn't get the reasoning behind the two thing's Reacher was accused of.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I tried to figure out the plot, I understood it till the end, except why Reacher had the charges against him, and why it had anything to do with the ending.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Reacher thought he had a daughter and was in the restrurant with her...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It didn't make me laugh or cry, I did get a rush when he was in the plane and broke the finger's and arm's of the two men...now that turned me on...

Any additional comments?

Wish Reacher could have been the Father. But then he couldn't go on being in different places all the time.... I did like the book, just confusing about the ending...

Spellbinding story

I love Lee Child's books. because of his persistent detail, you can't help but experience the excitement. I especially like the way he takes care of his nefarious enemies.

This Book is Classic Reacher

Lee Child seems to finally be back writing Reacher type stories that attracted readers like me a long time ago. I had the feeling in Worth Dying For that he no longer carred for his Reacher character, the book was so depressing I wasn't sure I would listen to the next. But then Lee wrote the Affair and I thouhght ok I enjoyed the back story books and took a chance. It was pretty good, but then came A Wanted Man and this time I felt Lee was just producing a book because he had a contract and was again dissappointed. Never Go Back brings back the type of characters and plots from the earlier books. I enjoyed this one and hope Lee writes more like this. It is classic Reacher with the arcane math and propabilities, open pedantic references, methodical and analytical observations, folding tooth brushes, buying clothes rather than washing, dinners, and hitch hiking. New are plane rides and cell phones but it is 2013 after all.

Jack Is Great

This is the Jack Reacher I love...BUT the story was very confusing to me I had to relisted to a couple of chapters, and kind of a let down at the end. I expected it to be a real surprise but it really wasn't to me.

Reacher is always a good time

I really enjoyed this latest Reacher adventure. (Once I get used to the idea that he travels with only a folded toothbrush, but no paste, I get wrapped up in the mystery and well written characters.) The storyline has lots of thrills and surprises without too much graphic violence. Of course, the responsible adult in me wonders why Reacher doesn't carry condoms since he frequently falls in bed with one or two new women in each book.

good solid reacher

I have read all of the Reacher books -- some great some not so great-- but everyone of them good enough to keep my interest.
this one was no exception -- good story -- He breaks arms and takes names!.

I did not realize that Mr Child was going to write just 20 books --
looking forward to the next one but not the last one!!

Another great Reacher novel

Dick Hill is one of the best narrators I have heard. I have read or listened to all of the previous novels and continue to be impressed. This wasn't my favorite, but it was still very good.
