Publisher's summary

When Derek Sodoc, only son of the world's richest and most powerful man, dies attempting to climb Mt. Everest, questions are raised. Was it the mountain? Or perhaps something more sinister? After reading the book Abandoned on Everest, which details Derek Sodoc's untimely death, Sodoc's father convinces the surviving expedition members to return to Everest, presumably to recover Derek's body. With billions at stake and a relentless father searching for someone to blame, everyone is a suspect.

Set against the backdrop of the world's highest and deadliest mountain, Murder on Everest is filled with intrigue, sex, betrayal, and mystery. It is unlike any murder mystery you've ever read or heard. Be sure to read Abandoned on Everest, the companion prequel to this exciting debut novel.

The Summit Murder series is a unique set of mystery novels. Join authors Charles G. Irion and Ronald J. Watkins for this extraordinary journey of exciting exploits and murder atop each of the seven major continental summits, beginning with Murder on Everest.

Critic reviews

"I hadn't expected much when I began this read, having not heard of the author nor knowing anything about the series.... I found it to be a gripping story and... I feel the interruptions to the narrative for historical or cultural context made the story all that much better. The detailed research presented was fascinating and incredibly well done. I, for one, look forward to reading the entire series. (Robin Cain, author of When Dreams Bleed)
"Collaboratively written by the team of Charles G. Irion and Ronald L. Watkins, Murder on Everest begins with the death of Derek Sodoc on the slopes of Mt. Everest. The question arises as to whether the death of the son of a wealthy and powerful man was accidental or intentional. A riveting mystery replete with sex and betrayal, "Murder On Everest" is highly recommended." ( Midwest Book Review)

An exciting, action-packed novel!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Murder On Everest is a crazy ride! First, I must admit that since I'm not a mountain climber I feared that some of the terms and descriptions may be over my head. I shouldn't have worried because Irion and Watkins do a great job of explaining everything in a way that is easy to follow. I had NO IDEA that mountain climbing could be so dangerous and involved! I felt the danger in each word spoken! The danger of the climb added to the story, making me bite my nails in anticipation.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Scott Devlon - He is the kind of hero every book should have.

What does Greg Lutz bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Greg's voice made me feel excitement, anticipation, worry, and the danger in every step of the climb in this book. He made me feel like I was on the mountain too and to me that is the sign of a wonderful narrator.

It read like a real-life Everest expedition, full of real-life drama, but also compares to a

Distracting music

The story was interesting but the distracting background music almost kept me from finishing. It didn’t add anything.

Ditch the music

Liked the story ... found the music interludes disruptive and annoying. I like anything Everest.

disappointed.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I wouldn't recommend. I wanted to love this book and to find a great new series. The book may be better than I give it credit for, but the author was off putting. He just read a book out loud, with no attempt at inflection or nuance. And the music between chapters was so irritating to me that I am actually writing about it.

Would you be willing to try another book from Charles G. Irion and Ronald J. Watkins ? Why or why not?

I may read another book, but I won't listen to them.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator has turned me off of this series. Which I wanted to love!

Mountain Climber's Bodice-Ripper

This is WAY more than anyone would want to know about climbing Everest - poor editing, 5th grade level writing, and intrusively irritatingly repetitive musical interludes. The author may know a lot about climbing to the top of big hills, but he seriously needs a class in Creative Writing.
