Acerca de esta escucha
Time waits for no one, including Marshall James. Now 58 and living in New York City, Marshall has outlived the expiration date he was given with a cancer diagnosis three years ago. He beat the odds, but he knows he may not beat the clock. So he’s decided to tell a story or three about some murders he was involved in back in the day.
The year was 1983. The bar was the Paisley Parrot in Hollywood, a gay, mob-run dive where people came to drink and few of them remembered the night before. Marshall loves his job as a bartender there. But one night, among the regulars, a killer arrives. Body by body, death by death, Marshall finds himself pulled into a web of murder, deceit, and crime, with a psychopath waiting at the center of it all. Marshall falls for the cop who is investigating him, not knowing if their relationship will survive or even if he'll come out of this alive. Find out before last call comes around, in Murder at the Paisley Parrot.

MURDER AT PAISLEY PARRAT
This is a story about Marshall James life. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a review. He's dying and he's telling everything that has happened to him. Some of it is sad. It's also a great mystery. I was one hundred percent wrapped up in this story. Wanting to know what was going to happen next. You can feel the pain he went through because of his life style. The problems the worry. He talks about working with the Detectives and the FBI. It's a different style of mystery. Fred Wolinsky did a great job narrating this book. He is new to me and that actually added to the story. It made it kinda like an audio biography of him telling his story. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. This was sad in so many ways, but the ending was positive. I empathized with the gay men who list their lives due to a psycho. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was good.

Light but serious
This book has it all Mob, serial killer, love, and Marshall in the middle of all three. This is a action packed, suspenseful, funny at times, awesome murder mystery. The characters are sometimes eccentric but lovable, and if you are lucky enough to have gotten the audio version narrated by the wonderful voice actor Fred Wolinsky these characters will really stand out and you will be drawn in to life of the Paisley Parrot and maybe even tend bar next to Marshall himself. This is a fun and light murder mystery with some serious and historic (yep Marshall will take you back to the 80's) facts and details that are relevant about the life of gay men as well as everyone in the 80's.

Great Murder Mystery, A Definite Page Turner!
If you could sum up Murder at the Paisley Parrot in three words, what would they be?
Mark McNease is a Gifted Author, especially when it comes to Murder Mysteries and his style is very engaging and Intelligently Written! Excellent Three Dimensional Character Development which indicates that the author has great depth and understanding of the Human Psyche! I have every one of Mark McNease Books both On Kindle and on Audio!
What did you like best about this story?
Marshal James is the main character who is 58 who so far has beat the odds with a diagnosis of Cancer. James is reflecting upon the time when he was a young man in 1983 during the onset of the Horrific Aides Epidemic and tells a story about when he was a bartender at the Paisly Parrot Bar in Hollywood and found himself pulled into the web of murder by a Psychopath. Marshall also falls in love with the Detective who is investigating him as a possible suspect of the Murders! Needles to say there are subplots that enhance the STORY and maintain your Interest ....A MUST READ!
Which character – as performed by Fred Wolinsky – was your favorite?
Fred Wolinsky, Narrator, brought life and depth to this First Book in the Marshall James Series with his Masterful Narration by letting the writing come through and characters speak for themselves, and raises the Story to another level of enjoyment! Fred Wolinsky did an excellent job and performance in bringing out the character dynamics of all subjects especially James Marshal and of love interest the Detective !
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Mark McNease met all expectation in terms of a Great Story, Excellent Mystery Murder Novel, Wonderful Three Dimensional Characters you care about, and it is a page turner cause it keeps you in suspense!
Any additional comments?
Looking forward to future Installments of the Marshal James Series and other Stories by Mark McNease (he has the Gift of Writing Great Stories) and He has brought me great Reading and Listening Enjoyment and this Fan is greatly indebted to Him!

Marshall James Is A Hit
Mark McNease's Murder at the Paisley Parrot is the story of a young man who finds himself tangled up in a progression serial killings happening all around him. It takes place during the dawn of the dreaded AIDS epidemic and Mr. McNease does a superb job of relating the fears that accompanied that time period. Marshal James, the main character is by no means a model Boy Scout, but he burrows a way into your heart with his fumbling courage, foibles and dark humor. Hoping to hear a lot more of him in subsequent books as we found this one to be so enjoyable.

My first Mark McNease book won't be the last!!!
This (audio)book is ridiculously good! Book protagonist Marshall James, now 58 years old, tells us about his life in the 80s working as a bartender for a gay, mob-owned bar called the Paisley Parrot and the murders of gay men that occurred during that time. Marshall shares bits of his life along the way and the entire book feels like sitting down to have a nice long talk with a beloved friend. Everything is frank, open, and just wonderful. We are introduced to a cast of characters--some are unpleasant and rather frightening but all are a wonderful addition to the book. Writer Mark McNease mentions the impact AIDS/HIV had in the gay community near Hollywood during that time as part of the narrative of Marshall James's life. The pacing of the book is exceptional with a lovely flow that lacked boring places. All scenes were well fleshed out and just plain good. Dang! Who is this writer? I want to hug the man! I'm glad I found this author and I'm looking forward to reading and reviewing more of his backlist!

* All smells are particulate."
Marshall James, a survivor - of lung cancer and so much else - at 58, looks at his life and, especially, the year of 1983 when he was working in L.A. at the Paisley Parrot as a bad tender, and first met Mac, the detective was to play so large a part in his life. It paints a gloriously seedy picture of the place and time, with heady sex and long despair. Remember that time before we all had cell phones? When aides was still new and deadly? And to be an homosexual was not Gay, but something to be discriminated for? Plus, this is a good murder mystery.
I love these atmospheric books by Mark McNease. Having recently read the second in the Marshall James series, Beautiful Corpse, I was dismayed to discover a change in narrator. Instead of the superb Senn Rhand, Murder at the Paisley Parrot is read by Fred Wolinsky. Whilst the timbre of his voice is pleasant enough and the Narration clear, his annoying habit of a n extended lowering of tone and extension of the tail end of words as a phrase concluded (for example, instead of hustler, he says hustleuurrr, and identity becomes identiteeeee, just two of many which could be quoted) had this reader reaching for the off button frequently and it was only the sheer enjoyment of Marshall's first person story which kept me reading. Whilst I hate to depreciate narrators as theirs is a difficult task, their ability to lift or destroy the enjoyment of an author's work cannot be ignored. This should have been a five star book.
So, this is a book title I would highly recommend for era atmosphere, excellent writing, intriguing murder mystery and great characters, well portrayed. But buy the written book, not the audio.
