Publisher's Summary

When old Eleanor Bridges dies on her birthday at The Laurels nursing home, no-one except her niece, Fran Castle, suspects anything. But when the will goes missing, and Fran's newly discovered relatives appear to be doing everything in their power to obstruct investigations, she enlists the help of her friend Libby Sarjeant.

Together they uncover sinister happenings in the past - including greed and elements of witchcraft - that provide a host of motives for murder. But it isn't until a second body is discovered that the killer is unmasked.

Kept me awake until 2am!

Great book. No problem with the narrator here.
Was awake until 2am and after because I didn't want to miss what happened next.

Good book spoilt by the reader

This is only my 2nd Lesley Cookham and I am enjoying the stories but the voice of Julie Barnes for Libby is spoiling this book as she sounds like a whining 5 year old unlike Patience Townsend in Murder in Steeple Martin, my first Lesley Cookham.

Murder

Would you consider the audio edition of Murder at the Laurels to be better than the print version?

I prefer the books to the audible as there are lots of male characters and I do not like women reading male voices

Have you listened to any of Julia Barrie’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I prefer Julia Barrie reading these books.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Timber, who will fall dow

different narrator than the first book.

Any additional comments?

it took some time to get into the book as it was done by a different narrator who gave the characters different voices from the first book.
the story was good but not as good as the first one.
I like fran being a physic as it gives a different slant to the crime stories.
will carry on with the series.

Our modern day Agatha

Have enjoyed Lesley Cookman's novels they belong to a genre I like - my quibbles with audio - are that the catalogue doesn't give a chronological order to the series - which is confusing. also the recorded books give references to others as yet non recorded - so we;re key details in the lives, relationships and deaths in the cast of regulars - and what happened to Plod1. Can't understand why Libby hasn't killed Ben yet

Enjoyable

Like the earlier reviewer, I really enjoyed listening to the book, but found the narrator's voice really annoying, thankfully, they appear to have reverted to the earlier narrator for future books. I'm really enjoying this series of books, escapism at it's best!
