A new mystery for Sabrina to investigate..........

Murder and Layer Cake featured Sabrina and her husband David, the stars of Meredith Pott's original cozy mystery series, The Daley Buzz, but this book takes place 10+ years after the events of that series. For those readers not familiar with Sabrina and David, Murder and Layer Cake can easily be read as a standalone. David is a homicide detective in the small town of Treasure Cove, and his wife Sabrina acts as his consultant whenever he is investigating a murder. This story starts one week after the murder of Treasure Cove resident Mark Wilcox, and Sabrina is afraid that this will be her first unsolved case. Before the case can go cold, one of Mark's friends commits suicide and leaves a note confessing to the murder. However, Sabrina's instincts tell her to keep investigating. Of course, Sabrina triumphs in the end, and the real murderer is brought to justice. As with all cozy mysteries, while the mystery is entertaining, it is the wonderful interaction between the main and side characters that keeps readers returning to a series. Potts delivers both the mystery and the characters with every book.

Carrie Burgess does her usual terrific job with the narration. Having her narrate all of Sabrina and David's books really helps with the transition between books, and she is the perfect choice for Sabrina's take charge personality. The team of Potts and Burgess is a winning one.

Another winner!!!!!!

Another great book. Now Sabrina is married with a daughter but she still has time to help David with cases. I love the Treasure Cove series. My only negative thing i can say about this book is i wish it was longer. The narrator did a great job.
As always, i look forward to listening to more i this series.

Fun murderous listen

This is a cozy mystery - you get dropped in right after the murder and it's a quick three hour listen but fun along the way.

Who doesn't like Cake?

I listened to this book while hunting for White Tail deer in Alberta, and I gotta say, Merediths Potts book was pretty darn entertaining. Carrie Burgess voice has a way of keeping me invested in the story, even when I'm freezing in a deer stand. More murder and more cake please!

A nice way to spend time at a Airport

While this is not a great work of literary Fiction it can be a great way to spend your time while traveling or relaxing
at the beach.

The Narrator did the best she could with the material.

Ok

The writing style wasn't bad, but I didn't realize before getting this book that it picked up 15 years after the end of a previous series, so this book really felt like a device to catch up with characters you're supposed to already know. It also felt pretty awkward that you're plunged straight in the middle of the murder investigation. The narrator also uses odd emphasis, not very natural.

Not my piece of cake

Murder and Layer Cake
: Meredith Potts

I was disappointed with this book as I love a good cozy mystery. The characters were flat, they never developed. Worse yet the constant description of what they looked like and their ages was beyond annoying. Maybe it's just me, but I felt lost from the start.

The narration was so so. Carrie Burgess has a clear voice, but I didn't feel any emotion from the characters.

Twisty fun

Nice cozy mystery in a really pleasant small town. Except for the murder. Forty something detective David Carlson does his best work with his gifted wife, Sabrina. A friend's brother is murdered and while there is an abundance of suspects, evidence is notably absent. Together they question all of the lying suspects and work their way through some messy twists.
The audio is narrated by Carrie Burgess.

Entertaining read

I enjoyed the story and the humorous, lighthearted tone of the writing. The narration was a little flat, but certainly not enough to put me off the book. I am glad I got the chance to listen to it--it was well worth checking out!
