Publisher's summary

Things aren't going well for private investigator and mom Margie Peterson. Her husband, Blake, is claiming his taste for drag queens is "just a phase." Her first-grade daughter isn't fitting in at her new posh elementary school, Holy Oaks Catholic School. And her hippie mother has swept into town and replaced the family's store of processed foods with seaweed snacks. To top it all off, a late-night phone call from her boss, Peaches Barlowe, has pulled Margie into a very strange murder case, one that involves the Holy Oaks headmaster, George Cavendish. Poor man - he just happened to die in a dominatrix's pink vinyl wading pool while wearing nothing but Aquaman tights and goggles.

As it turns out, there are a lot of people who might have wanted Mr. Cavendish dead, from his bereaved, betrayed widow to the shady owners of the local strip joint. Not even Margie's best friend, whose daughter didn't get into Holy Oaks, is above suspicion. Can the overtaxed PI solve the case before things get even weirder?

Chick lit; protagonist's life out of control

I'm not the right demographic for this chick lit novel. The book is funny in places and sad in others. Narration is very good.

These just keep getting better!

An excellent cozy mystery. Our heroine is finding her footing as a Private Investigator. She just has to maneuver pigs, hitmen, bully mommies and a husband coming out of the closet. Good story!

Fun Read

This was very easy to listen to while driving to our vacation spot. The story is light hearted and easy to follow, the reading was enjoyable and I found myself wanting to get back to listening to the reading after every road stop. Want to download more from this series.

Very Different Mystery, A Lot of Laughs!!

This is the second of this series that I have read. It is very different then the usual, mysteries I read. It is a very good story, and it has both twists and turns combined with humor. I have never read another author able to do this.
I highly recommend this author. The naration by Audible, was great. Loved the narator's voice,, humor helped by her tune and smoothness. I am going right to the 3rd of this series, I look forward to more outrageous cases.

Love this book

This book made me laugh out loud. I especially liked Cris Dukehart's interpretation of the character Peaches.

It's not easy being Margie...

Margie started the series as a married mother of two. She believed her family needed extra income, and she wanted to work, so she took a pt job as a private investigator. The first book had her focused on her kids in preschool. Now her daughter is in first grade at Holy Oaks, a posh private school that Margie's mother in law insisted she attend. The "school" focus is now on Holy Oaks.

You can read the publisher's blurb and get the skinny on that. What's underlying all of the mayhem is Margie's personal life. Her marriage has fallen apart, and nothing she could ever do will fix it. It's not her fault, but she feels like she's failed. Her daughter is acting out, the school mothers are dreadful, her mother has arrived and has replaced all the food with macrobiotic vegan stuff the kids won't eat, her best friend is being questioned about a murder she didn't commit. Margie's wardrobe consists of granny panties, a sports bra, mom jeans and tee shirts. All of her clothes are too snug, and the best she can do for a funeral is a black pre-pregnancy cardigan that is too small. Blake, her husband, is on a retreat, desperate to "restore his manhood," and the women's group she attends puts the responsibility for his "recovery" at her feet. If she's more of a woman, he'll be more of a man.

How Margie has held it together this long amazes me. The book is worth it just to see how (or whether) she'll cope with any or all of it. Being held at gunpoint is the least of her troubles.

I look forward to a third book, just so we can see some good for Margie.

Over the top

I like the funny light mystery but not trading common sense for humor on every move. Margie is so over the top ditzy that she does stupid things time after time again only to end up stumbling to victory.

Love this series!

This series is great! Stephanie Plum without men rushing in to save her. Funny and it makes me laugh out loud.
