Christine Nilsson and her husband, Marcus, are desperate for a baby. Unable to conceive, they find themselves facing a difficult choice they had never anticipated. After many appointments with specialists, endless research, and countless conversations, they make the decision to use a donor.

Two months pass, and Christine is happily pregnant. But one day she is shocked to see a young blond man on the TV news being arrested for a series of brutal murders - and the blond man bears an undeniable and uncanny resemblance to her donor. Great start, but...

The main idea was great and interesting, however 1/4 of the way in it just changed into something different and by the end I was like, wait...what?
The main character was not very likable, actually the same can be said of all the characters.

The narration was ok for the most part, except the narrator made a super weird voice when speaking like a man. It was extremely irritating and I never got used to it. I wish she'd just read it. No need for changing your voice, specially when it sounds so bad. Sorry.

I'd say it's PG-13. Some violence. Some mature content. Nothing explicit.

Author spoiled her own book

Would you try another book from Lisa Scottoline and/or Julia Whelan?

The narrator is mostly ok. I have listened to her before, but I kept thinking of a villain from another book when she was doing a certain character in this one (won't say, don't want to spoil it). I realize that a narrator only has so many voices but it was really annoying mixing up the books.

What could Lisa Scottoline have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

She needs a much better finish. A bit more attention to detail would also help, so that the plot would be a bit more believable.

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Julia Whelan before, and she is really bad with male characters.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

With the flaws I have mentioned, I would still have liked this book if the author had given the conclusion more thought. Very disappointing conclusion. She took a short-cut by introducing a character out of left-field, as well as having a final chase scene that was very poorly constructed. So for 11 hours I was fine, but I wish the finish would have lived up to the rest of the book.

Better than I expected

I always love a good mystery and this one gave me far more than I expected.

Some reviewers have expressed that they find parts of this story implausible, but many parts rang true because I went through a similar situation with a friend. My dear friend went through assisted reproduction with donor sperm and found out her donor was a VERY bad man. We too had to do a bit of detective work to get to the truth.

All in all, this was an enjoyable story. A few twists and turns. Written with in a pregnant woman's multifaceted point of view. It inspired a few deep discussions with my husband who heard parts of the story as he worked around the house. He hates stories with unnecessary melodrama, but this tale was never really overdone and many of the characters reminded us of people we know.

I was sad to come to the end, but it was a satisfying conclusion. I tried to finish it in one day, staying up much longer than I'd planned (the story kept me entertained while I made decorations for a baby shower). Alas, my hubby and pets finally convinced me to go to bed but I woke early to hear the last 6 chapters.

IMHO, it was well worth my precious monthly Audible credit.

When did Scottoline become Picoult?

What happened to Scottoline's flawed characters (Bennie, Mary, Judy) and sly humor? This main character is bland, sincere and boring. Not to mention unbelievable. Unlike her earlier character driven work, this novel feels like Social issues 101. Even Julia Whelan's excellent narration couldn't make this book suspenseful.

Disappointing, Soapy, Dopey.

This story was soap opera-ish, the characters were one dimensional, the concerns were trendy but not treated with insight, and the plot was preposterous. Ridiculous plot twists. I can handle a bit of those qualities in escapist reading but they overwhelmed this book.

Earlier books by Scottoline have had engaging, flaws characters, interesting legal notes and better plots. Maybe next one will be better.

Really??

From the synopsis, and previous novels by this author, I expected a great story line. Most of the book is the rambling thought process of a hormonal 'I know it all'. Sophomoric writing, at best. Is Lisa Scottoline using a ghost writer? Most disappointing.

Mediocre But Still A Good Read

Unfortunately I became more engaged with counting the clichés that the author used than with the plot. From the beginning I knew who was not the killer. When the real killer made his final appearance and. became road kill it wasn't even a surprise. The only clever thing about the story was the sub plot of the ego trip of Marcus as he wandered around in his mind hating himself for being sterile and therefore not being able to populate his world with his "wonderful" self. However, in spite of all the negatives this was a fairly good listen.

How terribly disappointing this was

Any additional comments?

I used to be a Lisa Scottoline fan, but this book was just so disappointing. Have we lost the art of editing? We are treated to a detailed description of a character scrolling through her iPhone' every characters chuckles, usually more than once in the same scene; and the sheer repetition was appalling. None of the characters is especially likeable, with the possible exception of the stereotypical irascible old lawyer. Seriously? I know it's trouble when I'm rooting for the bad guy to kill the protagonist. Don't waste your time on this book.

Honestly worst book I've ever read

What would have made Most Wanted better?

If it was never written

What could Lisa Scottoline have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Skipped this idea for a book

Any additional comments?

I honestly don't know what I expected from a book where the donor for a baby was a murderer. Who cares? I was very excited at first but bought it before I thought about it because the conversation should not go for 12 hours. This book has went in so many circles I stopped listening after the 3rd chapter. This is an interesting conversation if it were real life but the fact that it has been made into a book is sad that it could go this far. I would absolutely not recommend.

Narrator does poor male voices

Would you listen to Most Wanted again? Why?

I was intrigued by the story but would not listen to it again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Elizabeth definitely makes the story. She is just so committed to this baby that she won my heart.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator did a terrible job trying to read male parts. They all sounded stodgy and fake. It was annoying.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I couldn't but I certainly would have. The story was so good. I kept trying to anticipate what was coming next... incorrectly! Loved it.
