Publisher's summary

First, the mystery man in the church with a bullet-wound. Then, the riddle of a dead man's buried treasure...the curious conduct of a caretaker after a fatal riding accident...the corpse and a tape-measure...the girl framed for theft...and the suspect accused of stabbing his wife with a dagger.

Here are six gripping cases with one thing in common: the astonishing deductive powers of Miss Marple.

Miss Marple Entertains... Again.

Where does Miss Marple's Final Cases rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I didn't think that 'Miss Marple's Final Cases' was as good as some of Agatha Christie's other short story collections, but these stories were still intriguing and enjoyable to listen to.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

As this is a short story collection, the endings varied.

There are eight stories in this collection, six of which feature Jane Marple. The last two stories do not, and are more supernatural in their style (narrated by Isla Blair). However, they all feature the usual Agatha Christie twists and turns.

What does Joan Hickson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The authentic voice of Miss Marple.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I like to listen to short stories one at a time. Maybe before going to bed, or on a short journey even. Which is why I love these type of collections. You don't have to finish these type of books in one go, as there are natural breaks at the end of each story.

Any additional comments?

As usual with Agatha Christie, these stories are very entertaining and will keep listeners gripped until the end.

Exellent.

Where does Miss Marple's Final Cases rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Final cases rates about fourth, after two similar Poirot collections and a similar Miss Marple collection.

What did you like best about this story?

The narration, and the plot twist endings.

Have you listened to any of Joan Hickson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to several of her performances, and I love the way she can make each character distinctive. This is about the level of other performances I have heard.

Joan Hickson - the best Marple

These stories are evocative of Agatha Christie's general style. They are read by Joan Hickson - the best Marple - from the 1980s TV series. The stories are a light-hearted romp through different times read by a person who made the character her own; an actress from the old school who knows how to use her voice to best effect.
