Fun ride on the Mind Scrambler

I got into the John Ceepak series when I noticed it recommended as pick on Audible. I loved the Mad Mouse and just burned through the next three books in the series. I was looking forward to Mind Scrambler, anticipating the book would follow Ceepak's no good father to Ohio. Instead, we went to Atlantic City where Ceepak and Danny run into ex-girlfriend Katy. It is fun to follow the untwisting knot of relationships and motivations as they are revealed thread by thread. It is this understanding that Danny is beginning to understand. Danny is pressed to make decisions based on his assessments of the human beings. Danny's skill matures enough to enable him to bring John Ceepak from the edge of murdering someone himself.
The Audible recording is narrated by Jeff Woodman who does an outstanding job. I highly recommend the audible version of the entire series.

Narrator is the star

The Cepak books are a little "one note" for my taste, but the plotting and local color are fun and for a light read they serve admirably.

Jeff Woodman does a spectacular job of narration. He nails dialects (is he really from New Jersey?) and provides a wonderful variety of character voices which entertain all on their own in addition to doing their basic job of letting us know who is speaking at any given time. He captures the spirit of the book perfectly and enhances it as well.

Typically Good...but

Another good Ceepak and Boyle mystery...however, this one was a little irrirating as the author had to get political and slam the previous administration and conservatives in a couple of not so obscure references. Grabenstein should stick to writing and keep the political agenda out of the book...especially when a man with the integrity of our hero, John Ceepak, would cringe at such stupid statements.

Good entertainment if...

Really enjoyed his first book in this series and was delighted this one was a sale item. The narrator is great and provides a lot of humor while narrating the running commentary going on in the main character's head - definitely something we can all relate to! Would have given higher marks if I didn't have to suffer through the author's political sniping...just entertain me!

Another great listen!

I have listened to all the Ceepak books since they first came out and this one didn't disappoint. I love how both Ceepak and Danny's characters continue to develop. And Jeff Woodman is awesome as usual!

Darker than others in the series

I thought it was an excellent installment in the series. Yes, it was a different environment, and the underlying crimes are disgusting, but that's probably what I liked about it - it was much darker and grittier and more bad stuff happens than in the Sea Haven based stories.

There were points where I wanted to smack some of the characters for being so frustrating and annoying and full-of-lies. Ceepak and Danny do make it through, but if it wasn't for the fact that they are essential to the series and you know they must prevail so they have to figure it out eventually, you might be worried that the bad guys will get away with their crimes.

The narration was excellent.

My least favorite of the series

I've enjoyed Mr. Grabenstein's books however he needs to lose the political jabs and stick to writing amusing mysteries.
