Publisher's summary

Jack Heikel buys an old abondoned mansion and, after moving in, stumbles on an enormous vault hidden in a secret room in his basement. After using a torch to get access to the vault, he discovers four million dollars in cash, along with the journal records of illegal rackets in Chicago and Detroit in the late 1930s. More surprising: a jar of formaldehyde containing nine severed human fingers, three of which wear a very unusual silver signet ring. An ancient manuscript found among the rubble in an upstairs library explains the rings and also speaks of an order of men from biblical times calling themselves "The Knights of Zion".

Super Loud sudden noises..why ?

This story would have been a 3 or even a 4. About halfway through the story, the author suddenly felt that very loud sudden horse screams, dog growls, and people shrieking was what was needed. He was wrong. The book was very decent, and suddenly, the Listener gets inundated with very uncomfortable noises every fifteen minutes. No thanks. I did something I never do, I quit listening and will not resume this story. I love horror fiction, but this is just plain discomfort for no reason.

Horrible reading

Good grief, I think that the person was replaced by a text to speech program, I won't even listen to the whole thing.

This book stinks

This book is no mystery, it is a very poorly conceived and executed horror story with an emphasis on cruelty to animals. The characters are so shallow as to be concave and the plot (what there is of it) is equally devoid of complexity, depth or interest. This book does not satisfy on any level, and as an audiobook it's even worse, because the author is reading it and doing a really, REALLY bad job-he doesn't seem to be familiar with the material at all. I suppose if I had written this wretched thing, I would try to forget it as soon as possible too.

Awful Reading

I am not sure if it is a good story or not. The author has clearly only just learned to read. This is the worst reading of an audio book I have ever listened to. I only managed 40 minutes before I could take no more. A true horror story!!!!
