Critic Reviews

"Gone Girl fans will love Liz Nugent's Lying in Wait...it twists, it turns, its characters are utterly despicable and it is a compulsive triumph." (Stylist)
"A stunningly talented writer." (Sophie Hannah)
"Clear your diary if you pick up this seductively sinister story. The twists come together in a superbly scary denouement which delivers a final sting in the tail. Brilliantly macabre." (Sunday Mirror)
"An unputdownable psychological thriller with an ending that lingers long after turning the final page." (Irish Times)
"An excellent example of 'Domestic Noir'...excitement and curiosity mount until you realise you can't put the book down. Highly recommended." (Literary Review)
"A tense, taut, almost gothic thriller where the tension tightens to near unbearable proportions...impossible to stop reading. A brilliantly written, stand-out novel." (Marian Keyes)
"Taut, crisp, clear, a storm-warning of a book. It has the eeriness of The Turn of the Screw; but as these screws turn, a mighty tension takes hold. Masterly." (Sebastian Barry)
"I thought it impossible to match the brilliant Unravelling Oliver, but this Liz has done. Not only is her style beautiful, but she keeps the reader on the edge of their seat from page one until the completely unexpected ending. I read Lying in Wait in one sitting. I just couldn't bear the suspense. I absolutely loved it." (Amanda Redman)
"She writes compellingly, creates posh sociopaths like no-one else and doesn't flinch when the end demands what it demands. Lying In Wait is a story you genuinely should not miss." (Rick O'Shea)

Utterly gripping !!

Wow! I didn't really know what to make of the black humour in the early chapters but as the story develops this chapter by chapter from the perspective of the main players in turn you are taken on a very convincing and thrilling journey.
Believable ending!

Horrifically superb!

Any additional comments?

This is an edge of seat crime noir. Beautifully written, with richly drawn characters that really get into your head. The story is unusual, imaginative and gripping. Narration is excellent by all of the several narrators. I highly recommend this great book!

Compelling listening

Great story that I felt compelled to listen to in almost one sitting
The narrators all read well and helped shaped the books believable characters.
All in all I would recommend this book and only wished audible had the author first book as I would get it straight away

What did you like most about Lying in Wait?

I loved the narrators. I've never listened to an audio book with 3 narrators before but I really enjoyed listening to their impersonations of other characters voices too.

What did you like best about this story?

I was really enthralled throughout and couldn't wait to get back to it at any time I needed to put it down.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Haven't heard them before as far as I know.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The same as the book... My husband didn't mean to kill her...

Any additional comments?

I loved Liz Nugent's first book, but this was even better.

Reasonably engaging

I didn’t find this book as gripping as I anticipated based on the rave reviews it has received. Its theme of the disruptive effects of a hidden crime on all those affected is interesting but I didn’t find the characters believable, especially the mother who is depicted as an extreme mother from Hell. The story started well but then is slow and repetitive until very near the end when it takes off into an unsatisfactory finale.

Not a bad book, just not an especially good one. Having different narrators helped, though the Irish accents of Karen and Helen, as delivered here, were at times harsh and unattractive.

Brilliant Plot, Beautifully Written. Buy This One

Would you listen to Lying in Wait again? Why?

Yes without doubt. SO refreshingly different and the narrators were sublime. No gaping holes in this tight and clever plot and that adds so much to the whole, thrilling listening experience. LOVED IT!
