Publisher's Summary

Private investigators Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews have worked their share of domestic cases. So when Tammy Sue Lyerly hires them to find out what her husband is hiding, they expect to find something looney but harmless. After all, this is the guy who claims to have been a DEA agent, a champion bull rider, and a NASCAR driver. But when he turns up dead the morning after Liz and Nate deliver incriminating photos, Tammy Sue becomes the prime suspect. Questioning the truth of Zeke Lyerly's tall tales, Liz and Nate race to uncover small-town scandals, long buried secrets, and the victim's tumultuous past to keep Tammy Sue out of jail and the case from going up in flames.

Entertaining

This one isn't as exciting as the other books but it is enjoyable. The story is interesting and the pace of the story is slow and easy like a South Carolina drawl. I enjoy this series and look forward to the next book.

Great narrator, just for fun

Nothing deep or serious but fun... love the series and Loretta Rawlins has just enough southern to pull it off!

I want to live in Stella Maris

This is a series you read to take a vacation into another world. While it is ostensibly about detectives, murder, and mysteries, it's really about Liz Talbot and family, southern food, and the ambiance of an idealized Southern world (dead bodies notwithstanding). The plots are the backdrop and thus I cut them some slack. The narrator is important in setting the stage as the accents need to reflect the Charleston lilt. Loretta Rawlins does the characterizations well (but I'm not southern). The range of characters are charming, from the southern bell mother to the love interest (spoiler for book 1) Nate, who is, of course, handsome, kind, patient and supportive, and the stars sparkle over the breaking waves as you sit on the deck with sweet tea pondering who committed various dastardly deeds. A cozy mystery for sure, but lovely fun. Look forward to the next installment.

Engaging

Well written and beautifullly read. The mystery is interesting to follow and kept me interested. As always with this series, the characters are spot on. Love the Southern flavor, the moments of humor which had me chuckling out loud. The author has developed a smart, courageous protagonist with a wonderful cast of family and friends to keep her partly grounded and partly insane (in the best way, as families do). Her ghost friend plays only a minor role in this book. It was a delightful journey. Love this series and am looking forward eagerly to the next installment

Such a good series!

I enjoy the life in the South feeling of these stories. I cannot wait for the next book.
The narrator does such a good job with the characters. You get a visual of each person through both the story and the narration.
