Publisher's summary

Five years ago, Claire Fletcher escaped her abductor. But some scars never fade, and surviving was just the beginning...

When Claire sees a car full of children careen into a river, she rushes to the rescue. But the driver, a mother named Leah Holloway, prefers to drown. For Claire and her ex, Detective Connor Parks, it doesn't add up. What would motivate a woman with a beautiful family and a successful career to resort to such unspeakable extremes? What Connor finds out confirms Claire's suspicions of something dreadful behind Holloway's picture-perfect facade: a link between the terrified mother and a serial strangler targeting Sacramento soccer moms.

As Claire and Connor are drawn back together, their investigation leads them to unearth everything Holloway was hiding. What they find could be the only way to stop a killer from striking again.

A true suspense mystery

I thought this book was very complete in the sense that I felt satisfied with the ending. I didn’t realize until maybe a quarter into the story that there is a book before this one from a few years ago that links the two. Had I known, I would’ve listened to it first - despite the fact that this book works as a stand alone, because this it is very heavy with references to the earlier book. I would’ve definitely appreciated more of the story with that background info. However, this story was excellently paced and the characters were well developed - not fantastic, but decent and consistent. It is also interesting because there really aren’t any actual twists and turns but the events are still very engaging. What I mean by this (I hope this info doesn’t spoil it for some) is that the direction the plot leads up to and hints at, doesn’t deviate. It does recover somewhat by the addition of unusual circumstances but there is no real surprise - the surprise is just all the detail that is revealed. I kept hoping for certain outcomes for some twists but there really wasn’t any. But like I said, the author makes up for this in other ways. Overall, it is very well written and was for sure worth the credit.

Good but not great story

This was overall a good story with some surprising mystery. I have to say I did not expect many of the ties and that made it a good read. There was a whole lot of explicit sex scenes, which were somewhat unbelievable for such a straight laced woman. What he did to her was believable but what she did to him seemed a bit far fetched. The narration if the book was terrible. The monotone voice for each character made them all seem unmotivated and there was something about her sentence structure that bothered me.

Not unheard before

My title for this review belies what I mean. This was in no way anything new, but it was extremely well, very cleverly done. Twists and turns were well crafted. I would recommend this book.

Excellent

Excellent and eerily similar to a real life tragedy
Called theres something wrong with aunt Diane, Netflix documentary on how this young mother was driving on the Taconic Parkway in 2009, the wrong way and killed eight people including her young daughter and her brothers three kids.
Just proves that we never know what goes on in someone’s head and sometimes things are not what they seem.
Although they never found out why she did what she did, this author provided an excellent twist in this book to why Leah Drove that SUV off the bridge . highly recommend reading the book.

Loved it!!

Second book in this two book series was just as good as the first. I really enjoyed it. Lisa’s writing is just up my alley! Not overly complicated but not so simple that I was bored. It kept my attention and a twist is always great! I will be reading all of her books.

Meh

There's nothing original about this story - the car accident is a blatant rip off of an actual car crash in upstate New York, the serial killer is your typical guy with mommy issues. The narrator is at times unbearable but it's got some entertainment value so it gets three stars.

Another fantastic thriller!

Wow...this author never fails to knock these stories out of the park!! I was captivated by Claire’s story and so glad that she, and Connor, are together again. This time they’re solving another mystery. Claire and her sister, Briana, were fishing at the riverside when an SUV crashed from the bridge into the river. Claire swam out to help and was able to rescue 5 kids, but the female driver drowned herself. Connor and his partner are pulled off the task force that is searching for a serial killer, to figure out why Leah Hollaway committed suicide. She had also crashed into several vehicles, killing 4 ppl. The story goes back and forth between the POV of Leah in the past and Claire/Connor in the present. You just can’t stop reading/listening! Great HEA

Great book

Lisa Regan delivers a wonderfully tense and suspenseful story with engaging characters. You will not see this ending coming! Amy Landon does an amazing narration as well.

I highly recommend this book to fans of the contemporary romantic suspense genre.

Lots of excitement!

Better than book 1, can't wait to read book 3! Hope there's more romance coming!
