Publisher's summary

Listeners who find themselves with this new work from the author of Vampire: The Richard Chase Murders, and The Bundy Murders are in for an excursion into the weird and the bizarre. It ranges from a medieval-esque murder in a small town museum to the jilted boyfriend who decided that his former girlfriend needed to die on her 21st birthday. And then there's the demented son who returns home to live with his mother and stepfather, and one night in their beautiful mansion sitting atop a high bluff overlooking the Ohio River, slaughters them. Each case will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Murder Bluegrass Style

This is very competent straightforward true crime, and reads like a collection of newspaper stories. The author presents fairly full and factual accounts. The writing style is direct, with few, if any frills, and the material is presented with objectivity.

While this is an interesting little book, it is more like a Kentucky murder survey, and I admit that I would have preferred a longer book with more depth. However, it was a good read, and I enjoyed it.

Mr. Pierce, of course, provided his usual highly professional, impeccable narration. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars, and the narrator his usual 5 out of 5 stars.

Gruesome True Short Listens

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would to some one who like this genre.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Being a former forensic psych nurse I was really able to relate to the story about the mom who killed her toddler on God's command to save her soul. I had patients who were very much like her.

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

He had a crisp clear country flavored narration which fit well with the book.

If you could give Kentucky Bloodbath a new subtitle, what would it be?

Just the old trite adage. "The truth is stranger than fiction".

Any additional comments?

My only complaint is that a few of the stories need to be a bit longer, better developed with more detail. Over all though this was a great short listen. The stories were told in a factual concise manor with just the facts with out droning on about the author's personal philosophies and beliefs.

True crime stories from the Bluegrass State

The author presents an overview of ten intriguing true crime stories from Kentucky, over a period of decades. The stories are compelling and are brought to life by the best true crime narrator in the business – Kevin Pierce.

Stories include “Death by Sword,” where a deranged man uses an actual sword and knives to kill a twenty-two-year-old woman. “Blood in the moonlight,” a tale of a man that murdered his parents, and then took his own life.

“Rampage” is the story of two escaped convicts that murdered six individuals in ten hours. “The Iceman” unveils the story of teenager Todd Ice, who slayed a seven-year-old in a home invasion.

The book also features stories about a forty-four-year-old mother that killed her two children to “save her soul,” a mentally ill man kills his stepfather, and the 1977 Box Hill murders, and more.

~ I received a free copy of this audiobook through AudioBookBlast dot com in exchange for an honest review.

This audiobook is a compilation of ten criminal homicide cases that took place in the state of Kentucky over the past 50 years.

The title "Kentucky Bloodbath" is very appropriate. The murders and heinous attacks that are detailed in this audiobook are truly bloody and horrific.

I enjoy reading true crime novels, but this one is particularly graphic. That is because it is not just a single story about a single crime.

~ I would caution potential listeners that this audiobook should not be played where anyone under the age of eighteen might hear its content.

The length of this audiobook is perfect. It is neither too long nor too short. I listened to this audiobook on my daily commute to work and was able to hear the entire book in two days.

Author Kevin Sullivan has extensively researched each of the ten murder cases and has included background information on each of the victims and perpetrators. This makes listening to this audiobook much more interesting since there is almost always something the listener can relate to and therefore he/she becomes personally invested in each story.

Kevin Sullivan has included small details that highlight the decade in which each murder took place. This assists the listener is forming a picture in their mind of where and when the murder took place.

I admit that I had never heard about any of these murder cases prior to listening to this audiobook, but I did find them interesting.

I rate this audiobook as 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and would recommend it to those who have a particular interest in true crime stories.

Great Cases

I had heard of a few cases from this book, but not all of them. I was really interested each of the cases, the material presented, and how the author was able link it all without losing the interest of the reader.
There are ten cases presented in this book, and each of them build on the gruesome and grotesque as they progress through the book. I also liked the bit of psychological breakdown that the author gives on the perpetrator of the crimes, and what might have motivated the crime as well.

For those who love true crime, I highly recommend this book!

Very good true crime shorts !!

What did you love best about Kentucky Bloodbath?

That all ten cases were new to me. I knew nothing about any of these crimes. It was a short listen but each story feels complete and not just bare facts.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kentucky Bloodbath?

Not memorable but this books tells you about the worst of human nature and what horrible things people can do to each other. I wouldn't call the crimes bizarre - I would call them terrifying and blood thirsty !

What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love his voice and have only listened to him read nonfiction. I enjoy him well enough that I am going to try one of the fiction books he reads to compare the difference.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

Just realizing how many crimes are committed that we never hear about.
This was the first book written by Kevin Sullivan that I have read and I am impressed, I will not hesitate to buy more of his books.

Jumps right into the action

I bought this audiobook because it is narrated by Kevin Pierce.

There is hardly a true crime book available on Audible with Kevin Pierce as the narrator that I haven't listened to. Most of them more than once.

This book's author is new to me, so I didn't know what to expect. I enjoyed the book. I used my credit card to pay for it, instead of a credit, because it is much shorter than my standard credit purchases.

That being said, I think that the book ideally could have been quite a bit longer, because each story jumped right into the action with hardly any intro, if any at all. It's probably part of this author's style, and it's fine, but I like to get to know the characters a little bit before everything happens all at once.

But as it is, I do think my money was well spent!

I would have

I cannot say enough good things about Kevin Pierce's narration. He makes true crime like he does when voice PA fiction. The reader is riveted. He's a marvel.
