Publisher's summary

Jack felt the familiar burn of shame in his chest.

Why do I keep doing this...thinking about her? It was so long ago, but I can't get what happened out of my head. I shouldn't let any of that junk define me, but I still do. I'm driving in circles, caught in some loop that I can't break out of. I want to know why she abandoned me...but some things, I guess, I'll never know....

Handsome police officer Jack Stratton is the "hometown hero cop with a heart of gold". Constant nightmares have forced him to seek answers about his rough childhood and the dark secrets hidden there. With Alice (aka Replacement) by his side, Jack travels to Hope Falls to solve a murder that occurred before he was born. Everyone in the small town remembers the unsolved murder of Steven Ritter, but after 27 years, no one thought that someone would look into it - but they don't know Jack.

A heart-rending mystery-thriller about lost love, betrayal, and murder, Jack Knifed will keep you on the edge of your seat.

A young policeman learns more than he wants...

If there was an explanation given on why Alice is called Replacement, I missed it, and the question continually comes to my mind. Who or what is she replacing? But she is a fascinating character and I love her. When will Jack see she's perfect for him? This is a cool story with lots of mystery to keep the reader coming back for more. Makes me scared to look into my own past. Loved the book, but the swearing added nothing. Deborah Owen, Creative Writing Institute

Very entertaining fast paced mystery...

This is the third book I've listened to in the Jack Stratton series. These are really good books with with an admirable protagonist. He's a young cop with a hot temper and a soft heart. He grew up in foster care and now lives platonically with a young woman who came to live in the same home after he left.
Jack grew up thinking of himself as a throw away child who must not have been worthy of keeping. Him mother was an addict and he didn't know who his father was. In this book he goes to a psych hospital and sees his mother for the first time in about 20 years. She mentions his father's name and that someone killed him.
Jack and his friend/roommate go to his mother's hometown to solve a 27 year old mystery.
Great read, fast paced and interesting plot.
The books in this series do not have to be read in order. Each can be read as a stand alone.
Andrew Tell does a very good job narrating.
I RECOMMEND this book for an easy listen. Nothing too complex but it certainly is fun.

Wonderful detective suspense mystery!

I love this very different 6 novel suspense mystery series. The Kindle versions are free to borrow with my Kindle Unlimited account. I read the first 5 novels in 2015 well before audio versions were available and then had to wait one year to read the 6th (And Then She Was Gone). Books 4 and 5 are not yet available in audio. Each book is stand alone.

The Detective Jack Stratton mystery series books are unusual and unorthodox. I like them so much that I want all of them in my Audible library. Jack Stratton was raised in the whorehouse where his mother worked. Now in his mid-20's he is a hero police detective with a heart of gold and very strict moral code to which he holds himself. In this novel he is searching for the father he never met and for his mother's history.

There is so much to like about the Jack Stratton series. The character development with the vivid characters is outstanding. Alice, who is called Replacement, is a wonderful young lady who has lived in poverty her entire life and who plays a key role in Jack Knifed. The novels are fast paced and they are fun. Of course, there are also twists and turns. As much as I enjoyed the Kindle version, the Audible version is even better thanks to the narration of Andrew Tell. I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ENTIRE SERIES!!

Excellent Series & Performance!

I enjoy this series and this reader’s performance. I like a good mystery. So far, this author has been keeping me interested. This was the third “Jack” book I’ve read. Not sure if I should still be calling it the “Jack” series though, after reading this last one.

Jack is GOOD!

I am on my 5th or 6th book of this series and I love them! It’s serious but humerus too! Jack is so lovable and Replacement is something else! The narrator is perfect for these too!
