Publisher's summary

The invasion of California has begun, threatening to trigger World War III.

Greater China and its South American allies control Mexico, and their armies are poised on the Rio Grande, ready for the next phase of the North American conquest.

It is 2039. The Chinese are launching their secret weapon against the American border fortifications. At the same time, an amphibious fleet steams toward San Francisco. The Chinese have formed the Pan Asian Alliance and signed a war-pact with the South American Federation. Glacial cooling has brought the Earth to the brink of starvation. Now, U.S. soil is the most valuable commodity in the world, and the aggressor powers plan to divide it amongst themselves.

America is down but she is not out. The military has some deadly surprises for the invaders, but it may not be enough. Enemy wave assaults, vast armor battles and new drone fighters turn the war into a seething cauldron of mass destruction.

Invasion: California is a disturbing and controversial technothriller vast in scope, written by best-selling author Vaughn Heppner.

Invasion Alaska 2.0

What did you like best about Invasion: California? What did you like least?

I like the future war genre, and that is what this is.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I think this story is very far fetched. Basically the Chinese have bullet proof war technology that is light years ahead of the USA. It is the same plot as Invasion Alaska where the Chinese only get tripped up by bad luck. It gets a little lame that Chinese technology is better in every aspect than the USA. This story starts out where the USA has virtually no Navy because China has destroyed it, and the Chinese control Siberia, Hawaii, some of Alaska, and our allied with every important country. The USA is on their own with literally NO ALLIES. Once again, it's really far fetched to think the USA Navy which is larger than the rest of the world combined is virtually destroyed by the 2030's.
Also China is now the largest oil producer, and the USA has no oil. In reality the USA is projected to produce 9 million barrels of oil per day by 2015. That is just some of the discrepancies.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I think the general story about a future war between China and the USA is a good fiction piece, but the author goes way overboard on Chinas rise and the USAs fall. Every move China has made over the next 20 years is a home run, and the USA hasn't done anything right.
Another thing I really disliked is how it ended with an unfinished war that was a stalemate just like the last book, but even worse. He wrote this book with an ending that left everything in limbo for another book.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

If you liked the first book than you will like this one. If you didn't like the first book than you won't like this one. It's basically the same characters, circumstances, plots, and outcome. I bought it to see how it finished after reading the first book. I really didn't liked the general theme of the series but thought it was ridiculous how one sided the power balance was towards China.

WE ARE NOT RATIONAL BEINGS, BUT

RATIONALIZING BEINGS.
I think what I like most about Heppner is his political incorrectness. While other authors are jumping on the global warming band wagon, VH is talking about global cooling. While other authors are rehashing the old cold war with Russia, or fighting aliens or wondering off into alternate histories, VH is asking What If, about something that could actually happen. My history teachers in high school often talked about every war we ever enter was a surprise to us and we were never prepared. I assume it will be the same for WW 3.

Are you Lactose Intolerant?
If so, you may want to stay away from this series. Keep in mind as I tear this apart, I gave it five stars on all fronts. I lost count on how many times Paul said, that it didn't matter cause he was about to die. It may have happened in every chapter. IT WAS GOOD TO DIE WITH YOUR FRIENDS, THIS WAS IT, IT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME, etc... The cheese in this book is very thick, if included in the movie, would make it a B for sure. A research assistant ends up making most of the war strategy for the U.S. The generals are just too stupid. An Assassin hired to kill Paul, warns him ahead of time that he is going to kill him. Of course they become great buds. That being said, I did like Romo, Paul's new side kick, especially since Paul is less hot headed and becoming more legit, then book one. There is a lot of military tech in this and less politics. While I dislike politics on imaginary worlds, I love it on the world I live in.

You do not have to read book one to understand or enjoy this. I liked book one just a little better, but if this is on sale, get it. If not on sale, get book one.

Started out bad, then got much bettter!

After I listened to the first book in this series, Invasion Alaska, I immediately purchased this book and started it. At first, I felt duped by the author because it started out almost identical to Invasion Alaska, but with some names changed. I wondered if the whole book was going to be this way.

Luckily it wasn't a rehash of the previous book as the plot went its own direction, and proved to be even better than the first book! In this one, the Chinese and US military are more closely matched and the uncertainty surrounding who will win each battle makes the book draw you in even more.

FYI - While not required, I recommend reading Invasion Alaska before reading this book as this one is a great continuation of the story.

Another good book and I can't wait for the 3rd.

This one is filled with action as the 1st book. Its scary the "what if" factor if the U.S. was invaded. I have not finish yet got 4hrs. still, but its so interesting. I am looking forward to the 3rd book.

Absurd but awesomely fun.

Would you listen to Invasion: California again? Why?

Perhaps, but not anytime soon.

What other book might you compare Invasion: California to and why?

Legacy of the Aldenata series by John Ringo, although that series is about Humanity up against Aliens.

Which scene was your favorite?

General Nung charging to dead horse. Hes a dumbass but cool.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I finished it quite fast but definitely not in a single sitting.

Any additional comments?

This story is absurd, ridiculous and extremely far fetched. Fun though.

Part Two does not disappoint!

Normally part two is at best mediocre, but V.H. did not disappoint. I enjoyed the Preface, he calls this a “What If” story. The parallels to today’s geopolitical events are a bit to close to shrug off. The best fiction always has some reality to it. If you could package adrenaline, ass-kicking, and patriotism into a book, then this is the one. I dinged this book by one star on the story catagory. I did this because he ends this on to much of a cliff hanger, and I hate that. Waiting for book three.

WOW..WOW...get better than the first one

Where does Invasion: California rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is maybe one of the BEST sequels I have ever hear. Makes other fictions war series (like The War That Came Early Series) seen almost boring. Great everything, the narration, the voice and delivery is really great. Buying the third and fourth right now.. !!! ...!!!!!

What did you like best about this story?

Great continuity and action, not a boring moment.
