Publisher's Summary

Gertrude has been called a lot of things: a hoarder, an odd duck, and a crazy cat lady - but she's never been called a gumshoe. Until now. When her neighbor goes missing, she can't help but get involved, no matter how many people ask her not to.

Quirky, Funny Cat Woman on a Walker

Grumpy Gertrude and her cats, has left the homeless shelter for the trailer park, when she finds two kids left alone in a neighboring trailer . . . off on the search for their mother, she gets more than she bargained for . . . her antics are hilarious . . . and old age doesn't slow her down . . . I was, however, disappointed to hear that she was slipping salt and pepper shakers into her bag that was hanging from her walker in the fancy restaurant . . . no matter how expensive the soup was . . . good conclusion . . . but don't think I will be continuing the series . . .

4/5 Cozy Mystery Starring the Cranky Old Cat Lady

Summary: Meet Gertrude. She’s an eccentric, cat-loving, cranky, coot with mild kelpto tendencies who toddles around with a walker and finds plenty of trouble.

Additional Comments:
- We don’t really know much about Gertrude or how she got to be where she is in a tiny trailer park. Maybe more of her past comes out in future story. I only mention that because she’s occasionally delightfully and occasionally eye-brow raising sort of naïve. (i.e. stars in a Thai restaurant, existence of P.I. licenses, etc)
- She’s willful, opinionated, and nosy, but she cares. While that might rub some readers the wrong way, I think it’s part of her charm.
- The cranky part of her character manifests as rude at times, but there are parts where her better nature shines through.
- I heard the audio version. The narrator handled voices superbly, but her normal reading tone sounded pretty robotic.
- The salt shaker collection’s a tad weird.
- We don’t actually see much of her cats, which is odd given she has so many of them.
- The side characters are intriguing but could be fleshed out more. I’m assuming there will be some recurring characters throughout the series.

Conclusion: It’s a solid start to a cozy mystery series. There’s a definite flavor here. Many will find it amusing.

Interesting Story

This was a very funny and interesting story. Gertrude seems like a an old fuddy duddy. But, she does has a kind heart. However, she lacks some skills. Overall she's funny..

Hooked on Gertrude Gumshoe

I have listened to three of these on Audible so far and really liked each one! In fact, I am hooked on them. Can't wait until my next one. They are quite entertaining!

Cute and humorous

Gertrude follows the beat of her own drum and decides it's up to her to solve a murder. I thought the story was well written and really enjoyed the humor that was woven throughout.

Could be cute but performer sounds like a computer

Would you try another book from Robin Merrill and/or Darlene Allen?

Not if it has the same person reading the book

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The voice sounds flat and then a couple words will get emphasized, then it goes flat again. Sounds like an older Alexa.
