Publisher's summary

In this New York Times best-selling novel from Terri Blackstock, Barbara Covington has one more chance to save her daughter from a devastating addiction by staging an intervention. But when Emily disappears on the way to rehab - and her interventionist is found dead at the airport - Barbara enters the darkest nightmare of all.

In the wake of Barbara’s husband’s death, her 18-year-old daughter Emily has developed a severe addiction to drugs, and Barbara is afraid her son Logan will pursue the same path. In desperation to save her daughter, Barbara enrolls Emily in a rehab program, complete with an intervention agent scheduled to securely escort Emily to the facility.

Emily and the agent set off for Georgia, but when the interventionist is murdered in the parking garage of the Atlanta airport and Emily disappears into thin air, Emily becomes the prime suspect. Convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that her daughter is innocent, Barbara and her son race to Atlanta to try to find Emily before Detective Kent Harlan arrests her for the murder.

Detective Kent has questions of his own. His gut tells him that this is a case of an addict killing for drugs, but as he gets to know Barbara, he begins to hope he’s wrong about Emily. Fearing for Emily’s life, Barbara maintains her daughter’s innocence. But does she really even know her daughter anymore?

The panic level rises as the mysteries intensify: Did Emily’s obsession with drugs lead her to commit murder - or is she another victim of a cold-blooded killer?

Christian fiction should be labeled as such

What did you like best about Intervention? What did you like least?

While this is a basically pretty good story, the hard-sell Christianity increased as the story progressed. Buyer beware.

Preachy and Predictable

What disappointed you about Intervention?

The book was used as a format to sell Christianity. It was very simplistic and used every opportunity to sell Christianity.

Has Intervention turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes

Would you be willing to try another one of Cassandra Campbell’s performances?

No

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No... even the story was simplistic and not very believable. The main character, the mother, was a saintly saved woman. Not very realistic or interesting.

Great read

This is the best Blackstock book yet. Very suspenseful. Anyone with a child with a drug problem should listen to this book.

Good Listen if you do/don't have Faith/Religion

This was my first Terri Blackstock listen (or read) and it was a pleasant surprise. I'm used to listening to books that have more details than I would like and usually think the point can be made without quite so much detail. I appreciated the faith the mother had throughout her situation, and that the book had a realistic part at the end where the children understand mom has a lot of faith but they don't suddenly fall at the alter in repentance.

This is a good listen for someone who likes suspense or drama but doesn't want the gory scenes or details. The religion factor is not overplayed like they're trying to hit you over the head with it. I'm planning on listening to the other two books in this series, and possibly others by this author.

Any additional comments?

This started off as an interesting premise for a detective novel--a distraught mother investigates the disappearance of her drug addicted daughter. The twist? The daughter disappears as she's being escorted to rehab by the interventionist. As soon as the police detective appears, the whole thing degenerates into a thinly veiled Christian romance novel. Even he writing deteriorates as the author starts to develop the predictable attraction between the mom and the cop. Then, bible passages began to appear! Really?
Don't waste your credit unless you're sure this is the kind of book you want!

Engaging Story Line, Disappointing Messages

I gave 4 stars because I really was hooked and stayed engaged. I understand the messages the author was highlighting- mainly how people with addiction affect their family. There are other serious takeaways whether intentional or not and some are good lessons. The characters really got on my nerves though because the mom never listened or did what she was supposed to, and so neither did the kids. She could have caused her daughter to be killed because she wouldn't calm down...never thinking things through...I know you can't blame parents for children's choices but she seems almost to blame for many of the problems even if not all...very conflicting in that way...also what hurts me the most is the watered down message of Christianity that these so called Christian authors promote. If you read the Bible and then read/listen to these books...its not the same. God helps true Christians to live a Christ like life. The mother even though in crisis did not display what Biblically a Christian should have been. I am sad because these books justify living below the standard that a Christian should. Watering down Christianity in the hopes of connecting to more people doesn't produce more Christians, it produces nothing. Just keeps people where they are with a feeling that they are ok even though they are not living out what the Bible teaches.

I am thankful for a story that I can listen to with a good story line and no cursing or other immorality. Just disappointing that the standard of Christian life keeps getting lower and lower by Christian authors promoting that Christians can live by their own rules and still be a Christian. Christianity is about following Christ's example, but these authors are more intent on trying to make the characters act like unbelievers and call them Christians. Shame! Authors could really show how a Christian should handle the problems of life...

Couldn't stop listening!

Good suspense. Thoughtful, moving & inspirational. Didn't feel "preachy".to me. It was clean though, no bad language. Just bought the rest of the series.

Fundamentalist Christian Fiction

A fair to good story - if you don't mind being preached to every 10 pages.
