Publisher's Summary

#1 New York Times Bestseller

Past midnight, Chyna Shepard, twenty-six, gazes out a moonlit window, unable to sleep on her first night in the Napa Valley home of her best friend’s family. Instinct proves reliable. A murderous sociopath, Edgler Foreman Vess, has entered the house, intent on killing everyone inside. A self-proclaimed “homicidal adventurer,” Vess lives only to satisfy all appetites as they arise, to immerse himself in sensation, to live without fear, remorse, or limits, to live with intensity. Chyna is trapped in his deadly orbit.

Chyna is a survivor, toughened by a lifelong struggle for safety and self-respect. Now she will be tested as never before. At first her sole aim is to get out alive - until, by chance, she learns the identity of Vess’s next intended victim, a faraway innocent only she can save. Driven by a newly discovered thirst for meaning beyond mere self-preservation, Chyna musters every inner resource she has to save an endangered girl...as moment by moment, the terrifying threat of Edgler Foreman Vess intensifies.

Narration was awful

The story was not too bad, but the narration was awful. Very monotone and dry with dialogue chapters 1 through 10 and then was a little better towards the end.

Took a moment to take off

The problem I had with this book was the slow evolution of the story line. Even though it takes a while to get to the point when it finally does you will be on the edge of your seat begging for the ending to be one you like . The narrator did a great job in conveying the "intensity" and despair in the events portrayed chapter after chapter . This serial killer is the most dangerous of them all , why you ask ??? Well that's for me to know and you to find out !

Awesome

I really loved this story.
This book made me think a lot about people who are in position to negatively or affect people’s lives. Presidents, police officers, senators , etc.
The killer really makes you think. The heroine makes you want her to succeed. You find yourself saying no, just save yourself.
I really liked this book.

Redux

Second title "Intensity" same story line, even the same Napa Valley scene in the beginning. The first Intensity was a great gripping book, this one is like a serial killer biography, predictable in every way. I had the feeling the Koontz forgot he wrote the original title; took some phototropic drugs and tried but failed to recreate the same story. With his long list of great fiction one must wonder where in the World he came up with this.
