Just What I Wanted

I have been a fan of J.A. Jance and the J. P. Beaumont series since I happened onto the author about 6 months ago. The plot is comfortably predictable [there is no doubt that Beau will solve the crime] but the mystery is interesting and does keep one guessing until all possible suspects have been cleared. The narrator, Gene Engene, is just about perfect as Beau and presents the other characters--including children and women--in a subtle yet distinctive manner. I recommend this book to anyone who likes good stories, good characters, and knowing the good guy will win.

Improbable Cause

This book has many twists and turns and I couldn’t put it down, so speak for audible books, and I had considered one person or the other as the suspect u til the end, which was a surprise.

review

love Jance"S books. I like to have some tongue and cheek humor along with suspense. there are some genuinely profound moments in Jance's stories. when are we going to see Beaumont, Brady and Ali Reynolds in a book all at one time.

Some of the Voices Made Me Cringe!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. J.A. Jance almost always hits a home run as far as I am concerned. My favorite series is Joanna Brady, but J.P. Beaumont is a close second. I have heard many books narrated by Gene Engene but this was the first one where I just didn't like the narration. He was great when he was doing the voice of Beau......but I seriously disliked almost all of the other voices, starting with his partner, Al. His portrayal of Al sounded like he couldn't possibly have enough brains to qualify as a detective........more like a punch-drunk fighter!! He did the words of the sergeant so fast that I sometimes had to replay them in order to understand what was being said. A great book and I know this narrator can do better because I've heard him do it.

Not A Favorite

One of J.A. Jance's ok books. Not one of my favorite story lines. Did not seem to have enough intrigue and full character information as other books in the Beaumont series.

wrong reader.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

just barely. I fell in deep like with J. P. in the middle of this series. because of Audible I was able to hear about him from the beginning. the reader, at least, through the first 5 books is so disappointing in comparison to the reader that helped me wanted to know more about J. P.

What did you like best about this story?

J. P. is a grump with a very big heart. he doesn't want to leave anyone behind. he's there for the underdog.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

the reader was boring. he makes J. P. sound so harsh in comparison to the reader I remember. I've spent too much time hoping that the next book in the series would have a new reader.

Do you think Improbable Cause needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I know future books (# 6 ?) with J. P. are coming my way with a different reader & I can't wait to hear him..
