Publisher's Summary

Irresistible chemistry and thrilling suspense combine in this electrifying new installment in New York Times best-selling author Lynsay Sands' Argeneau series....

One hundred and twenty-five years is a long time to nurse a crush. That's how long it's been since Beth Argenis first met Cullen "Scotty" MacDonald and he instantly became the star of her most X-rated dreams. Back then he was rescuing her from a Rogue Immortal. Now Beth's a Rogue Hunter - a damn good one. She doesn't need saving anymore, despite what Scotty thinks. What she does need is the fierce, wild desire that finally erupts between them.

Scotty has hesitated to claim Beth as his own. But one explosive kiss confirms what he's long suspected: She's his life mate. But Beth is tough, fearless, beautiful...and in immortal danger. Unless he wants to lose her forever, he'll have to rethink everything he once believed about love and destiny as well as confront an enemy who's terrifyingly close.

    "Good But Missing Something"

I love this series and enjoyed this book for the most part but I felt like it was missing that emotional connection between the two main characters that is usually such an essential aspect of this series. Their relationship didn't feel romantic to me for most of the book. They just kind of coexisted for the majority of the book until WHAM they're having sex. I don't know if I'm really putting it into words well. I guess that's why Ms. Sands makes the big bucks. I still mostly enjoyed the book despite that quibble and look forward to her next.

    "Communication Skills"

While the characters lacked serious communication skills, and circled around the same issue for most if the book, it was a good story. Immortal alpha hottie, and kick ass heroine always a good time. Only thing that holds it back is the multiple attempts on Beth's life and her biggest issue is proving over and over again she'll do as she likes, and doesn't need to be protected. Okaaaayy... By the third time I was like, seriously?

Also, maybe could've used less description of mundane tasks. There were a couple times I got distracted for a minute during the audio, then realized it was still on packing a bag, or something about food. I didn't rewind, didn't need to.

"Something new but didn't hook me in"

I found the story dragged and felt a little disjointed compared to other books in the series. At the same time, I enjoyed how the story was quite different to others in the series.

"#26: Excellent writing –Excellent narrator 5/5"

    Lynsay Sands—Excellent book –applause

    A MUST READ!

You have brought the story back home. The last couple books are based on the drama in South America. (it feels good to be home—LOL)

First, I must applaud your choice with a new narrator—the voices, emotions, and accents are excellent. Michael Rahhal applause to your superb performance.

As for the story synopsis: There is a hesitation on the side of Scotty (read the story to be introduced) to claim his breed mate. The reasons for his hesitation is mixed into a multi-layered Argeneau adventure. (great writing). Beth is a Rogue Hunter that is targeted by an unknown. And what makes it worse is that that unknown finds her even when Beth herself doesn’t know where she will be. (YES, creepy and deadly). All of this personal drama continues intertwined with the hunt for the rogues. (multi-layered, well developed).

    Thank you, Lynsay Sands

I'm not a big romance reader but there is something about an Argeneau story that makes get goose bumps. Lynsay Sands can bring a reader deep into their world.

"Enjoyable story/addition to the series :)"

    3-3.5 stars

This was a good story but I had some mixed feelings about the hero and it cause some vacillation over the final rating. Regardless of any mixed feelings over this story, I will be continuing the series.

**Spoiler warning...I'm going to give some info on Beth & Scotty's past and what Scotty did that I really didn't like**

Beth is an Immortal and is around 180ish years old total, 125 after being turned. She works as an hunter for the Immortal counsel, taking out rogue Immortals that break the rules that all Immortals have to follow. Beth was turned by a rogue and was saved by Immortals. She was in a bad place after her rescue but she's turned her life around and is doing well now.

Scotty is an Immortal and over 800 years old. Scotty was the son of a Scottish lair and was turned by an unknown Immortal who felt responsible for a fatal wound...Scotty doesn't think it was a rogue but he never found out who it was. Scotty is the head of the Rogue hunters in Europe and was part of the team that saved Beth from the rogue 125 years ago.

Beth didn't have a good life. She had been sold into prostitution by her father at the age of 10 and it took a long time for things to get to a good place. When she was an old lady, she and some friends were targeted by a rogue Immortal that turned them. Beth went through hell and when it was over, she hadn't done anything to harm others so she was allowed to live as an immortal. She'd been a bit out of it when she was first rescued though and Scotty (who was part of the rescuing team) thought she should have a mind wipe, thinking the trauma of what she'd been through was just too much for her to handle. He couldn't read her but thought it was because she'd lost her mind. Beth's mind wasn't wiped and she didn't see Scotty for a while...until she applied to become a rogue hunter in Spain and that was just for him to show up to object to her admittance into the program. What she didn't realize is that with that close proximity, Scotty realized she was his lifemate.

Scotty didn't claim Beth right away because she was still angry and messed up about her life. It's only been in the last decade that Beth has been able to leave behind the anger and other destructive emotions plaguing her. I could accept Scotty backing off until she was in a better place. Unfortunately, when he showed up this time, Beth thought he hated her because in the past he'd always been brusque to her and seemed to glower at her. She just didn't realize it wasn't hate but his attempts at restraint. This misunderstanding caused problems because Beth thinks the worse of Scotty when everything comes out...before Scotty can tell her himself.

I could accept all this and found that I really liked Beth and was even liking Scotty. But then he tried again to get Beth to get a mind wipe! I could accept this when he thought she was nuts from what the rogue did to her but to suggest it now, after she'd come to terms with everything just seemed really messed up! He said it was because he didn't want her to have to live with all the terrible memories of her past but really??? Now that she's doing good he wants to wipe her mind? I was pretty shopalled (shopalled = shocked + appalled) that he'd even suggest that after she'd done so well at turning her life around. So, that definitely took things down a bit for me and had me questioning Scotty's mental capacities. Thankfully, Beth is more than willing to stand up for herself and made it quite clear that he was being an idiot. Once Scotty realizes his idiocy, he and Beth are able to work things out so they end the story heading towards a HEA together.

The story itself was pretty enjoyable...before Scotty pulled his crap, I was thinking very good thoughts about it on a whole. And regardless of everything, I still really liked Beth as a heroine. She wasn't bitchy and could be laid back but she was more than willing to stand up for herself when it was needed. The non-romance story wasn't too major but it was interesting enough to help keep the story engaging. Overall, I would recommend it (if you can deal with Scotty's idiocy). :)

Great performance especially the Scots accent - coming from a fellow Scot I was most impressed! Good storyline as always in this excellent addition to the Argeneau series.
