If She Only Knew.. pick another narrator

I have never read or listened to a book that painted the heroine in such an unattractive light.
Visions of the main character laying in her own vomit, did not evolke any emotion in me, because the writer never developed an emotional link between the main character and the reader.

The narrator tried to develop a voice to suggest how it would sound if the main characters jaw was wired shut...but he never lost the lisp..throughout the whole book....
Also the narrator was too raspy and unbelieveable in the love scenes. The voice was a struggle to listen till the finish.

Good Story - Poorly Narrated

The plot and characters were a bit weak, but not bad. The narrator should be replaced.

Often individuals reading books assume that reading a book is just that -- reading Asthe words. Little interest in the voice is evident and there are problems with the pacing of the narration.

Do these people read the book before they read it aloud? It seems to me that pre-reading ought to be a requirement to improve the narration.

Just Ok / Poor Narration

I was intrigued at first because the plot description give the impression that it would be an interesting story … a strange accident, amnesia, suspicious family members, evil lurking in the shadows… but my interest didn’t hold on to the end - I got bored about half way through.

The characters weren’t that remarkable (nor even likable!), the pace was slow, the love story between Marla and Nick seemed completely contrived (I felt it was there just as an excuse for the author to write sex scenes), and The Big Reveal at the end was somewhat predictable although I do admit to being surprised at some revelations.

I think perhaps I didn’t enjoy it because of the narrator. I regularly listen to Audiobooks in 1.5 to 1.8 speed and this often helps eliminate many of the complaints most people have about narrators, but in this case the tone was still flat and boring… it just helped me get to the end faster! Ha!

This might one of those rare cases where the movie (if there was one) is better than the book.

Buy the Book not the Audiobook

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story itself is entertaining although somewhat predictable but still worth a read if you like Linda Jackson. The main problem here (like many other reviewers said) is the narration. I hear audiobooks all the time and I have never encountered such a poor narration. When I read the reviews I though "how bad can it possibly be"? Well it's REALLY bad...The narration was so bad (problems with tone, candence etc.) that is was extremely difficult to get into the story.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Predictable

What didn’t you like about Alan Nebelthau’s performance?

Terrible.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes

Couldn't put it down!

This was a great mystery that kept me guessing. I thought that I had it figured out several times but I was wrong. I loved the narrator. He was perfect for this book! I'll be looking for more Lisa Jackson. I hope that the same narrator will be used.
