Publisher's summary

A Sunday Times best seller

The superb third Dirk Pitt classic from multi-million-copy king of the adventure novel, Clive Cussler.

The towering iceberg drifting in the North Atlantic was a floating tomb. Embedded in the great gleaming mass was a ship - sealed in so solidly that not even its mast protruded.

Here was a sea mystery to rank alongside the Bermuda Triangle and the Marie Celeste. But for Major Dirk Pitt, top troubleshooter for the National Underwater and Marine Agency, it was also the first link in a fantastic chain of events that would lead him too close - and too often - to violent death. And to the discovery of the most sinister and bizarre conspiracy of the century...Iceberg.

Old school

Reading the woke comments made me respond…this was a GREAT read, books take us places and this adventure did just that. Writing, like acting is Art and can’t be falsely represented or made to conform to any one else’s guild lines.
Loved this book and story dragged me along for a good journey….thanks Clive !

Too dated to enjoy

I normally enjoy Clive Cussler's books but I have to go with the other reviews and say this one was not worth the money. Our societies attitudes have moved on, and this was an uncomfortable listen. The attitudes to women and the gay community expressed in this book are not just dismissive they are demeaning. Scott did his usual great job of narration, but I won't go back to these early books again.

Fun story with twists and turns

Good story except for the nasty way that gay men were treated. Ironic that the most beautiful woman turns out to have been a man.

This is probably the most disappointing of the Dirk Pitt series.

I’m an avid lover of the Dirk Pitt series. I have read nearly very one of them. This one, leaves a lot to be desired. No Al, was sad enough. The weird, uninteresting and slow story hardly kept my interest. The love story, kinda grossed me out. Didn’t love seeing Dirk play the feminine or the twist at the end with the “Lady” of interest. Otherwise, a good example of Cussler’s NUMA underwater adventures with Pitt as the hero. I’m glad the rest of the books were better and I read them before getting to this one. I might have lost interest all together…

Dirk Pitt vs. a cabal of billionaires

Dirk Pitt returns to solve a seagoing mystery of a ship frozen inside an iceberg. From there he is thrust into attempt after attempt on his life. The action is nonstop from that iceberg to Iceland to California Disneyland of all places.

In the previous books, Dirk has been a poster child for misogyny. He's a bit better on that score in this outing, but he won't get any awards from the LGBTQ community as he goes undercover as a REALLY flamboyantly gay man. This was written in 1975, so some " of it's time" allowances must be made.

All in all the book was fast paced and entertaining. If you enjoy the James Bond books and films, you will probably enjoy this as well.

Not a good as books 1 & 2

I really like books 1 & 2 of this series. This was well written, and performance was really good, but I just didn't enjoy the story as much. I guess it was less fantastical than the first two. I plan on reading at least one more in this series. Not every one one can be a home run.

misogynistic

Currently struggling to get through this book. The views on women and gay men are just ridiculous.

Come on…..

Did not care for the epilogue should have rewritten it. Wish this stuff would stay out of good books!!

IceBerg

I had read this book years ago and remember some parts, but a re read has brought it back into clear focus. I have enjoyed the adventures and wits of Dirk Pitt and plan to read the books in series again.

One of the greatest Clive Cussler, books that I’ve read in all my years of reading him
