Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Karen Rose delivers her latest pulse-pounding suspense novel, in which the line between the virtual world and everyday reality blurs when it comes to murder.

Eve Wilson's face was once scarred by a vicious assault. Terrified and ashamed, she escaped to the online realm, where she could choose the face she allowed people to see. Years later, her outer scars faded and inner scars buried, Eve has fought her way back to the real world and is determined to help others do the same. Now a graduate student moonlighting as a bartender, Eve researches the addictive powers of online communities. When her test subjects begin turning up dead as a result of apparent suicides, she doesn't know where to turn.

Homicide detective Noah Webster is one of the few people who believe the victims are connected murders. Eve becomes Noah's online guide and realizes that the handsome detective may have secret scars as painful as her own. As Eve and Noah chase a killer who is always one step ahead of them, together they try to overcome the tragedies of their pasts and learn to trust again. But they soon discover that danger is much closer than they think.

Fantastic! No one writes thrillers like Rose does!

Another excellent book by Karen Rose. This is the 10th book in her series! We first met the main character, Eve Wilson, back in book 1, then again in book 4 (though we got little updates here and there throughout the series).

Eve is a fascinating character--a survivor in every since of the word. In this book, Eve struggles to overcome her past. She is pursuing a degree in psychology when suddenly, her thesis becomes the road-map for a serial killer! Women from Eve's psyc study start turning up dead and she turns to the only person that can help her.

Detective Noah Webster is a man trying to overcome demons of his own. He's fallen for Eve, despite the scars she bares from her past--and the ones he bares from his own. When Even comes to him with information on the Red Dress Killer, he's determined to protect her, because somehow, he knows that a killer has his sights set on Eve Wilson.

The Red Dress Killer does indeed realize that Eve is steadily leading the police to his door. She's proven to be quite a thorn in his side. He'd nearly been caught with his hand in the preverbal cookie jar and she's the only one who could have discovered the link between his victims...the only one who knows who's next.

This killer has plans of his own and Eve Wilson isn't the only person that's going down. Noah Webster, and the rest of the elite homicide team known as the HAT Squad are going to pay, because no one will get the best of this killer.

This book has it all - and that's not good

A local ladies' magazine profile of a handsome police officer sets off a melee of murderous envy and other mayhem ensues. A serial killer with a sick alcoholic mother - actually an abundance of alcoholic mothers here, a scarred but resilient victim/crimesolver, a cop with a family killed in an auto accident struggling to learn to love again and falling in love with pivotal person who keeps supplying information. (Although you would imagine that this would keep him off the case or at least cause him to postpone the relationship until after the case is solved, these people don't seem to care - I am supposing because without them together, there would be no sex scenes.)

I could have written this, and I imagine you could've too. There is not even a brilliant solution - someone finally checks up on something fairly obvious. I bought it for a long book for travelling - not for brilliant literature - but it was over-dramatically read and formulaic to the point of silliness.

Although the length and the online gaming idea may be tempting, I recommend you avoid this book unless you have never read a modern murder mystery before.

Very good for romantic suspense.

This is not light reading. One of the reasons it’s long is because we watch the serial killer plan, get, and kill many people. It’s hard to believe that he gets away with so many things. You’d think someone somewhere would see something. But it makes a good story. And it makes a long story. There is no rape, but the reader does watch torture.
There is a happy ending for the good guys. I had a minor problem with hero stupidity - in Spoiler below.

The killer stalks victims in an online second-life community as well as elsewhere.

I liked the romance. There’s not a lot of it, but it’s good. Eve has facial and other scars from a prior attack. Noah is a former alcoholic who grieves his wife and child who were killed in an auto accident.

AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Elisabeth S. Rogers was great. Her voices and emotional interpretations were excellent.

CAUTION SPOILER:
I had one minor problem that I’ve seen before which bothers me. Good guy enters the killer’s lair and sees the killer laying on the floor and the tied-up victim nearby. Hero runs to the victim which gives the killer time to grab a weapon and do harm. Hero should have gone to the killer first to make sure the killer was dead or tied. Dear Author: if you want the good guy and killer to fight, let it happen as soon as the good guy enters. Don’t make the good guy stupid by going to the victim first so the killer can get a weapon.
END SPOILER.

Narrative mode: 3rd person
Genre: romantic suspense.

This is my opinion and i'm sticking to it

It normally doesn't take me long to finish an audiobook. This one took me a long while, for the reason because it was too long to hold my interest, and it was just too long for this type of story line. I had to force myself to finish it.

Don't get me wrong, I usually enjoy a Karen Rose novel, but this one was built on pity. I am as empathetic as the next person but the self pity in each character in this book really started to grate on my nerves. This book just needed more suspects, more chase, more mystery. definately MORE MYSTERY. And less personal sad stories. The narrater got me through the book. She was preetty good. This is my opinion and i'm sticking to it

completely formulaic and banal

To make things worse, the language is painfully clich?d. I mean, a computer could have written this with more style. Sadly, I was crossing the Pacific and had this audio book and the airline magazine, so I listened as long as I could stand it. The airline magazine was better written.

Loved it

What did you love best about I Can See You?

I must have read this book some time earlier, still loved it but figured figured out villian too soon, which took away the surprised ending for me. Noah and Eve all both damaged and it makes them so real.

What does Elisabeth S. Rodgers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She did a great job

TOO MUCH ANGST!!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No it's not a book to get lost in especially if the main characters have too much baggage and they constantly whine about it...especially the main female character....all she does is whine...whine...whine...about what life dealt her..admittedly it was horrible...but then why the author saw fit to keep giving her a bad hand I don't know.....it almost seemed like one tough situation was not enough the author keeps putting her in situations where she's always in trouble...she gets hurt in the first book that her character was introduced in, then she gets kidnapped in another book and then...she gets kidnapped in this book too ...what's up with that?!

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

NO...!

I Can See You

loved it. I will continue to get her books. I hope she continues with the same detective like the Scarpetta books.
