Publisher's summary

An Amazon Charts bestseller.

What would it take to make you intervene?

When Ella Longfield overhears two attractive young men flirting with teenage girls on a train, she thinks nothing of it - until she realises they are fresh out of prison and her maternal instinct is put on high alert. But just as she’s decided to call for help, something stops her. The next day, she wakes up to the news that one of the girls - beautiful, green-eyed Anna Ballard - has disappeared.

A year later, Anna is still missing. Ella is wracked with guilt over what she failed to do, and she’s not the only one who can’t forget. Someone is sending her threatening letters - letters that make her fear for her life.

Then an anniversary appeal reveals that Anna’s friends and family might have something to hide. Anna’s best friend, Sarah, hasn’t been telling the whole truth about what really happened that night - and her parents have been keeping secrets of their own.

Someone knows where Anna is - and they’re not telling. But they are watching Ella.

don't waste your time

I'm an avid audiobook listen and more than once I have found myself screaming in frustration at this book. I still haven't finished it; I am trying to suffer through. it actually could be condensed into four chapters the beginning a couple of notes from the middle and the end. This lady spent a whole chapter talking about how to arrange a flower bouquet but hasn't progressed the storyline at all and I'm on chapter 31

Creepy Thriller With Depth

This mystery accomplishes something many thrillers are unable to do by adding a sense of reality to the storytelling and a genuine expression of feeling for the victims of crime. What's more, the story places the listener in the scary position of suspecting almost everyone at different points in the book. There are so many back stories, twists and dark secrets that the ending sneaks up and really surprises. Unlike other reviews I've read elsewhere, I liked hearing all the personal details of life--managing a farm, complex families, raising teens and the daily running of a flower shop. I thought all this information made the book and the story much more firmly grounded in a strong sense of plausibility. In the end, this was a scary, sad and believable story. A powerful combo if you enjoy thrillers that immerse the reader deeply into the lives of the characters and story as it plays out. However, do be warned--it's creepy.

Very frustrating novel!

I did complete I Am Watching You, but it was a chore. The part I like least is the constant navel gazing by the protagonist. The story is sad from beginning to end. If there is a message in the story I missed it. The narration style is consistent with the sadness of the plot. I usually like dark psychological/suspense mysteries, but not in this case.

don't waste your money or credits

it was painful to finish. literally painful. the author put in so much completely irrelevant stuff it was like she had a good idea but couldn't flesh it all out or put in the work so she just filled it with a bunch of crap to get from point a to point b. Spoilers ahead for those like me who wanted to know but was sick to death of the endless dragging on. You know why she said you disgust me dad? she saw a picture of him cheating on her mother. that's the big drawn out deal. dragged through the whole story line just for that, which really had little to do with anna going missing. Sarah's dad is a pedophile, molested Sarah and Lilly, had nothing to do with Anna's disappearance. Ella, the witness, is quite possibly the dumbest person ever functionally created. basically everyone just keeps lying about dumb shit instead of telling the police the truth. then they go on and on about how awful and stupid the police are.... but they've all been lying and hiding shit from the get go so the cops are just endlessly working out false leads and lies because apparently none of them are capable of being honest, not being completely selfish, and hell bent for glory on making the stupidest decisions possible. Sarah, the best friend is a truly wretched person with ZERO redeeming qualities. Skip the book and save hours of wasted time. it's awful.

The story line kept me interested

Lots of interesting twists and turns. Author has a talent for painting a picture with the details. I very much enjoyed this story and would not hesitate to recommend.

Excellent listen

This one hooks you at the start and keeps you listening well beyond what you had planned.

There were several times my husband called me because I was sitting in my car well after I got home, because I wasn’t at a good stopping point!

overall ok

It felt slow, I found it had a hard time holding my intrerest. Personally was not fond of the character progression, they didn't seem to grow, Ella and Betty were the only two that showed any growth.

A Bunch of Nonsense

This book had so many diverging storylines that intertwined and ultimately made zero sense. This could have been better. It was probably one of the most pointless books I've listened to, definite waste of money.

I stuck it out for most of the book, even though I knew right away that it just wasn't for me. But the ending, seriously, I just couldn't. It was so unbelievable and far-fetched. I will avoid this author from now on.
