    "I want more..."

I love Mr. Gilstrap's writing style and his story flow. I enjoyed the book from the first 5 minutes of listening. I did not find his use of sexual crimes overused at all. Been around too many that have been sexually abused during their youth-thought it was very real on that front. I couldn't wait for the time I could listen again to the book. I will look for more from this author. Narrator Jeremy Gage sold it!

"Good book, did not care for narrator"

I enjoyed this book but think it would have been a better 'read' than a 'listen'. I did not care for the narrator and found myself tuning him out and having to go back and listen again. A suggestion to anyone thinking of buying this title, listen to a sample of the book first.....

    "Yawn-this should have been exciting...but"

    IT wasn't.
Started out with a dead body and man sleeping in a tent, but the narrator but me to sleep by chapter 2.
A waste of my credit-I'm not interested in listening to this dreary narrator (Jeremy Gage).
    I gave it a try-really.
But he was so boring and monotone I just couldn't keep interested.
I hardly ever not finish a listen but this is one that is going bcd. Bye bye Hostage Zero..you're fired!!

    "Detailed and riveting"

This was a very enjoyable book and I would recommend it to others. My only complaint is the authors over use of child sexual abuse references. I do not believe it added to the plot and was very distracting. Otherwise, the characters were vivid and realistic and the story compelling.

    "Excellent suspense thriller; bad narration"

Hostage Zero is a solid thriller. It may be the best novel in the Jonathan Grave series. Jeremy Gage's narration could have been lots better. All of the novels in the series after this one are with Basil Sands narrating. Sands is not a great narrator, but he is MUCH better than Gage.

"Maybe read it, not listen to it."
Would you consider the audio edition of Hostage Zero to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print, only listening to audio, so unsure if it's better than print. However I've purchased numerous in this series and the audio was great. In this one, the narration is so off base for the story I wish I hadn't wasted the money. While the voice is soothing, this book is a suspense novel, with what I feel should be many inflections and voices modulated to match the character, this book does NOT have that. Such a shame because I've really enjoyed the narration in the other books.

Would you be willing to try another book from John Gilstrap? Why or why not?

I have listened to almost all of Gilstrap's books in this series. They are great books, looking forward to trying others not in the series. I do recommend the author.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jeremy Gage?

The narrator should be the same guy who did the other books in this series. He created feasible character voices and personas.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, nothing in this book has moved me yet, other than I want to sleep due to the narrator's voice.

    Any additional comments?

I haven't finished this book yet, it's just not what I have come to expect from the books in this series. I am struggling to continue listening, I catch myself having to rewind because the narration was so mellow, that I zone out and totally miss what happens. I've never had that problem before with Gilstrap books. So I recommend the book, based on content, I can't recommend this audio version of it, with this narrator. His voice is soothing, perhaps he should be doing love stories.

    "Good story, awful narration"

This is the one time I wish I would have bought the book instead of audio. The story seems interesting enough but it’s hard to get involved due to the painfully slow presentation by the narrator. It’s a story full of action and intrigue but sounds like someone’s Grandpa reading a story out loud without his reading glasses.

    "Standard fare for Gilstrap....."

Stretches your credulity a bit, as usual, but consistent with the genre. Basil Sands is DEFINITLY Gilstrap's best narrator.
