Publisher's Summary

When portrait-painter and occasional detective, Charles Honeybath, pays a visit to his old friend Edwin Lightfoot, there are a few surprises in store. Edwin's irksome wife is packing her bags, while Edwin is indulging in an eccentric game of pretence- acting the part of a long-dead petty criminal named Flannel Foot. Days later, when Edwin disappears, Honeybath finds himself with a mystery to solve and some decisions to make about his life- will he be lured by his intended haven?

Great fun!

'Honeybath's Haven' is simply enjoyable. Do not expect anything 'gritty'. I would not describe it as comic, but it is light and fun. Just settle down, enjoy the characters and the puzzle, and let the wonderful English wash over you. Jeremy Clyde has just the right voice for this book, and reads it superbly. A great book to de-stress to. A few minutes of letting it roll over you, and you will find yourself smiling. Thoroughly recommended for lovers of civilised murder mysteries and sophisticated English wit.

3 hours before getting to the crux of the crime!

What disappointed you about Honeybath's Haven: An Inspector Appleby Mystery?

So much rambling amongst characters who were characterless. Don't hold your breath waiting for Appleby to appear for fear of expiring. I couldn't be bothered to find out 'who dunnit"!

Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Innes again?

This is the 6th book I have had but although the others were long winded with rather too much descriptive writing (including the overuse of Latin phrases) at least there was a decent lead up to the crime. I will not buy any more of the Appleby books although, sadly, 1920's to 1940's setting crime books are limited.

What does Jeremy Clyde bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Lovely voice & eminently suitable. Sorry he had such an awful story

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Utter disappointment & boredom.

Any additional comments?

I cannot find that Audible still has the 'return' option but this is one I would happily return
