Editorial Reviews

Why we think it's Essential: After hearing Robert Forster's narration, it would be hard to imagine anyone else playing Keller, the contract killer suffering a mid-life crisis. Forster manages to elicit empathy for a cold-blooded murderer, while perfectly capturing the wry wit of Lawrence Block's writing. —Steve Feldberg

Publisher's Summary

Keller possesses all the qualities of a professional killer. He's cool, confident, reclusive, icy, and ruthlessly efficient. But this seasoned hit man is also prone to self-doubt as he finds himself caught in the clutches of a mid-life crisis. Between contracts, he learns a few crucial truths about himself and the ways of the world he's become detached from, and winds up a wiser - if not better - man.

I got just a little bored near the end with the whole hobby thing, but the vast majority of this book made for a great listen.

Each chapter is a short story and complete.

I expected Kellar to be a James Bond: swave, strong, fast on the uptake, emotionally restrained. But he is much more interesting than that. Narration is truely superior. He delivers just the right note of restrain to make this book shine. In one way Kellar is like Bond.

Very entertaining

Interesting premise and well written. Forster's narration is excellent and made the book come alive.

It was okay

A little slow and not much action.
An okay story line, wanted to hear it because of the movie coming out. Don't think I much care to see the movie now.

I was sad when the story ended. I wanted to know more about the man and his every day life. The writing is superb and the narrator fit the role.

Block is Good

A little difficult to get into. Lots of "I said", "Susan said", "I said", "She said", "he said". Very annoying for first few chapters. You either get used to it, or settle into it and don't notice after a few chapters. Story line is great. Couldn't wait to listen to next chapter.

Really enjoyable

I really enjoyed this book. It's offbeat humor and story line is really fun. I would recommend it highly.

No Twists- Nothing Happens

Light fare. Nothing happens. Goes from one job to another. A series of unrelated scenes. Save your money.

Didn't want it to end...

A great story. Great narrator. Out of the box gentle humor. You can't go wrong with this one!
