Publisher's summary

The only way

A home provides more than comfort and shelter. It stores memories...and hides secrets. Divorcee Caitlin Stoller and her children recently moved into a charming old Tudor-style house in the coastal town of Echo, Washington. The place was a bargain, but as weeks pass, Caitlin starts receiving messages - first friendly, then unsettling, hinting at the property's dark past.

You'll stay alive

Caitlin's teenage daughter, Lindsay, isn't fitting in at school. To make matters worse, there are stories about local high school students who've disappeared without a trace - all star athletes, like Lindsay. Then there are the rumors that their new home is cursed. Caitlin doesn't want to believe the whispers, but something strange is going on. Personal items go missing, and there are too many accidents....

Is if he never finds you

The Watcher knows how to get inside the Stollers' home - and inside their heads. The rumors are true, but the full horror is even worse. There's no escaping the nightmare that started here long ago, and no place to hide from a killer who knows exactly how this story will end....

Fast Paced Suspense...

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Yen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Jonathan Yen does a very good job narrating. I have listened to him before and find his voice easy and pleasant to listen to.

Any additional comments?

I am a huge fan of Kevin O'Brien. However if you have never listened to anything else that he has written I would like to suggest that you start with one of his other books like Unspeakable, The Next To Die or Tell Me You're Sorry. Again, this is a good book but he has written better.
This book has two stories going on. The first is a house that comes with it's very own malicious stalker and has been terrorizing it's residents for years. The second is about high school athletes who have been getting abducted over the course of a few years.
The two plots seem to be independent but converge almost at the end. I was able to correctly guess who and why, so there is some predictability.
I did like this book and would definitely recommend it.

You won't be able to hide your fear!

There are two great things about Kevin O'Brien's thrillers. First, as you listen, you can see the action as it takes place, like a scary Hitchcock movie. Also, maybe more importantly, his characters are not supermodels or business-world hotshots; they are regular old people you can identify with: teens, mothers, neighbors, shop owners. They all find themselves in very scary situations that build and build until you can't stop listening!

That's the case here with Hide Your Fear. Caitlin Stoller and her son and daughter move to a nice old house that looks like a great bargain--at first, until the family begins to notice some very unsettling details. Even worse, talented young swimmers have been disappearing from the area. Caitlin is terrified for her daughter, Lindsay--will she be next?

This book might look long for a thriller, but it held my interest from the very start. As the two storylines finally came crashing together, I didn't want to stop listening! Even when I came to the satisfying conclusion, I didn't want it to end. I wasn't sure about narrator Jonathan Yen at first, but I'm glad I kept going--the variety of voices he can do really brought some realism to the story, and I always knew who was speaking.

Recommended for a great beach listen, or any time when you need an absorbing thriller to whisk you away!

A Crazy Fun Ride Ride From Beginning to End

This was the second book I listened to by Kevin O’Brien and I am beginning to love this author. The first book was the betrayed wife, which was great.

This book grabbed my attention from the beginning. I listen to tons of mysteries and I hate when you can see how it’s going to end early on. This book had me guessing throughout and I love that.

The narrator was phenomenal, especially the way he portrayed the killers voices... so creepy!

I recommend this to anyone who likes creepy mysteries with unusual characters.

Attention grabbing

I really liked the suspense of not knowing until the end!!! It kept me glued to my chair.

Twisted!

Wow. The author is fantastic. The story, very long indeed, and seriously twisted. Too bad there are real people out there doing such twisted things in real life. I will be reading more of this author's work. Oh, and the narrator was great!

A real page turner

The story was great, and pretty consistent. And as his writings seem to go, you never see the end coming. The narrator though irked me with his 'voices'.

Not For Me...!

I cannot stand the narrator!!!! I must return the book. The quality of the narrator turns this book into a stylized , annoying radio show of some kind...giving the happenings a stylized sameness that is supposed to be amusing. Nothing is amusing about these killings! The people and how they are killed is somehow made sheer horror...nothing I wish to hear...just a horrific string of pyschotic killings.

LONG book

Good story but it was quite long and slow. The narrator was terrible with certain voices. In the beginning of the book you have no idea what is going on because it has nothing to do with what the story is about and got to be confusing. Overall a good story but could have been better.
