Publisher's Summary

In the still shadows of the confessional, a madman tauntingly reveals his plan for a murder he is going to commit, pulling Father Thomas Madden into a twisted game by disclosing his next intended victim: Tom's sister, Laurant. In a frantic race to protect her, Tom calls upon his best friend, elite FBI agent Nick Buchanan, to track the predator who is closing in on Laurant. Now, as an electrifying attraction grows between Laurant and Nick, so does the danger - and one false move will cost both of them everything that matters.

Critic Reviews

"Heartbreaker moves along at a racehorse pace, its plot swerving and darting with sudden turns and jolts.... Garwood's characters are well drawn." (New York Post)

Fun and Funny

Some of the most delightful characters are found in this book. I want more of them. The narration is wonderful. The story about Lois nearly tickled me silly.

FBI to the rescue.

I am huge fan of Julie Garwood's older books and I like her newer stuff, just not as much as I enjoyed her Highlander or Regency books. This book is good but I wouldn't say great. I didn't connect with the characters as well as I would have liked. I have a hard time when the main characters are lacking any flaws. One thing that annoyed me is that we never hear the stories being told about Nick and Tommy only that there are stories and that they were funny. Maybe she was going for heartwarming and not funny because I didn't laugh. Narrator was okay, the recording had a few instances where the sound would drop, it usually only last a couple of seconds.

No struggle here.

If you were following my pitiful reviews you will know I have had a few disappointing books. Been trying to decide what has been driving me up the wall. Maybe it is the narrators who just read it to me. Whoever this one was took the time to draw the picture of the voices with hers. Impressive. Really good book.

Great story!!!!!

I like the narrator when she does her women voices the men not so much, love Garwood and her stories this one as well as Mercy have a bite the story is suspenseful enough that keeps it interesting, yes I would recommend this to other people, I can even see this made into a movie.

Narrator was a Heartbreaker

Any additional comments?

I quit listening to this story because I could no longer take the narrator's voice. From the very beginning, it was like listening to an automated operator or Siri read a book to me. I stuck around for a few chapters because the story line was intriguing but I finally gave up.

The Formula Reigns

First, I enjoyed this book and Tanya Eby's performance with exception of her attempts at a French accent. Julie Garwood's writing made the rather predictable plot enjoyable. However, I've tired of the worn out character devices--The beautiful, sexy, young woman is sucked into love with a virtual stranger who is overwhelmed with lust. The lust translate to irrational overprotectiveness, blah, blah, blah. The lust affair interrupted the flow of the story while adding little to move the plot forward. It is unlikely that I'll purchase any more books by this author.

Too Juvenile, Just Couldn't Get Through It!

Got this book on sale use one credit, get two books. The reviews looked promising stating it was a chiller with romance and humor, which can work together when you have a good, grown-up plot and funny lines. I am not finding this to be the case with this book. I should have known when one of the grown-up characters was named Tommy:) Sorry Garwood lovers....

Not great, not bad

Would you try another book from Julie Garwood and/or Tanya Eby?

From Garwood? Yes. Tanya Eby? Probably not.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I'm not quite sure yet....am only at Chapter 15.

Did Tanya Eby do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes....pretty good.

Was Heartbreaker worth the listening time?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I don't really have a strong opinion yet about the story, other than I think the character development in a little on the shallow side. The only minor issue I have is with the narrator's lisp. It's not terribly heavy....but it is noticeable and just a tad irritating. Other than that....I'm glad I got this book as part of a twofer! It's not a GREAT book....but it certainly isn't a bad one either!

Good story, terrible narrator

The story is great, I love Julie Garwood. But this narrator is horrible! Her cadence is extremely annoying. Literally had to force myself to continue listening because I wanted to find out what happened but I hated the narrator so badly. Will make a point to never buy another audiobook she does.
