Publisher's summary

In the still shadows of the confessional, a madman tauntingly reveals his plan for a murder he is going to commit, pulling Father Thomas Madden into a twisted game by disclosing his next intended victim: Tom's sister, Laurant. In a frantic race to protect her, Tom calls upon his best friend, elite FBI agent Nick Buchanan, to track the predator who is closing in on Laurant. Now, as an electrifying attraction grows between Laurant and Nick, so does the danger - and one false move will cost both of them everything that matters.

Critic reviews

"Heartbreaker moves along at a racehorse pace, its plot swerving and darting with sudden turns and jolts.... Garwood's characters are well drawn." ( New York Post)

Easy nice read

I love Julie Garwood. I read her Scottish books for the take charge take care men and the sweet love stories. I read her modern books for a light easy read. Both make me smile and sigh. Garwood will always be a favorite.
Tanya Eby did wonderful! I hope to hear more from her in the future with different authors as well!

Really good book

I love Julie Garwood and this series is beyond great. Great writing and good character development. She has kept her humor in her new series of modern mysteries.

Narrator ruined book

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I like Julie Garwoods writing and story line but with audio books, narration is critical. I read the last book in the series first; it was excellent. But could not complete this book; my recommendation is read books narrated by Tanya Eby.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She was terrible

great story telling

What made the experience of listening to Heartbreaker the most enjoyable?

Almost like a Hithcock thriller, not knowing who or what to expect next; and surprised as the story unfolds.

Narrator wasn't great

Narrator doesn't pronounce the main character's name correctly so very frustrating everytime she says it incorrectly

Not the right narrator

I was not fond of the narrator. It wasn’t that she was terrible, but just not good for this book. I thought she made Laurent, the female lead, sound like a twit with her inflection. And, her tone was off. She made things sound carefree and silly at times when they shouldn’t have been.

This is definitely chick-lit, more romance than suspense. Or rather, perhaps it just takes too long to get to anything that feels like suspense. This has some sex, but pretty mild.

I had never read/listened to this author before, but she has a good reputation. I think the narrator may have really taken away from the book, so I will give the next in the series a try. The next one, “Mercy,” has a narrator I am familiar with and is good.
