Publisher's summary

The tiny Swedish island of Sandhamn has always been a haven for lawyer Nora Linde. With trouble brewing in her marriage, she finds its comforts more welcome than ever, even in the depths of winter. That is, until her two young sons trip across a severed arm in the woods.

The boys' gruesome discovery will once again connect Nora with her childhood friend Thomas Andreasson, now a local police detective. When the limb is identified as belonging to a twenty-year-old woman who disappeared without a trace months earlier, what had been a missing persons case takes on a whole new urgency.

Nora and Thomas delve deeply into the woman's final hours, each of them wrestling not only with the case but with the private demons it awakens in them. As they do, they'll find themselves drawn into the history of Sandhamn and the tensions that have been simmering just below the surface for more than a hundred years.

Well...

since again a good story that goes back and forth between long ago and present.

I detest the ending. The author just abruptly ends the story. Just as she did in her previous books. Just for the sake of selling another book.
I won't be reading any more of her books.

Woo boy, this one gives you all the feels!

I have been enjoying this series and following the lives of police detective Thomas and his childhood best friend, Nora. This one was told from the POVs of several ppl, including one from 1/2 century before. As usual, the author makes you wonder how the different stories will be relevant to the murder investigation. The old POV will break your heart! When all is said and done, it all comes together to solve the mystery.

Riveting

Sandhamm Murders are best heard with a large coffee mug, trail mix and a weekend of no interruptions. Trying to guess whodunnit is so kuch fun. The story was very heartbreaking and the cliffhanger! Buying the next one now!

Great Book Series! Narrator does an excellent job!

This is not a one and done book, like the rest in the series the author draws you into the lives of the characters in the novel & leaves you wanting more! Excellent work!

Sandhamn with a historical twist.

I don't want anyone to be put off by my review because this isn't a bad book in the slightest, but compared to her best, it's not as enjoyable. It's the usual strong, believable characters and interesting stories between them, and that sells me Viveca Sten books every time. I must be honest though - this is not my favourite of the series.

I'm a bit conflicted about this one. There's a big chunk of the story dedicated to a storyline in the 1920's and though I enjoyed the modern mystery more, I felt the historical story was much better from a storytelling POV. The past is thoroughly fleshed out but I wasn't that impressed once the connection is revealed to the present. It felt a bit flimsy, almost like so much effort was put into making the past section strong that the modern story suffered. I felt a disconnect between the motives of the killer versus the past storyline that was supposed to have caused it.

While I love Nora and am very impressed with her as a strong, sympathetic character, I am getting concerned by the way she keeps ending up in the middle of police investigations that shouldn't involve her. It's starting to smack of convenience and I am uncomfortably reminded of Murder, She Wrote.

As always, kudos to the reader who does such an impressive array of voices - she really makes these books for me. I find it very easy to start the next book in the series because I know the quality I'll be getting with her. I'm very impressed by her male voices, she has an incredible talent for voices, male or female.

This is not my favourite - as strong as the past story was, it wasn't exactly enjoyable and doesn't have a remotely happy ending, so it's a bit rough going sometimes. I also found the resolution of the modern murder thin and because of the heavy emphasis on the past sections, there were pretty strong hints about what the connection would turn out to be, which takes a lot of the surprise out of who the killer is - you might not know who it is, but you can take a guess in the ballpark.

Despite all of the above, I will continue to read every Viveca Sten book because while the story might not always live up to the best books, the result is always strong writing and characters, and you know what you're getting going in. I find her books incredibly easy to pick up and continue with for this exact reason and oddly, even if I don't enjoy the murder mystery as much, I love the characters and their stories, and that will always make me recommend Sten highly.

Good series, interesting location

Would you try another book from Viveca Sten and/or Angela Dawe?

Yes Viveca Sten, no aangela Dawe

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not on the edge of my seat, but maintained my interest.

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

NO!!!!

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I don't go to movies

Any additional comments?

I really like the series but I will read the next book on my Kindle if it is read by Angela Dawe. This series needs a Swedish accent and someone who can do men well, our hero sounded like a Disney Princess.
