Publisher's Summary

What are you thinking, Amy? The question I've asked most often during our marriage, if not out loud, if not to the person who could answer. I suppose these questions storm cloud over every marriage: What are you thinking? How are you feeling? Who are you? What have we done to each other? What will we do? Just how well can you ever know the person you love?

These are the questions that Nick Dunne must ask himself on the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, when his wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police immediately suspect Nick. Amy's friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn't true. A police examination of his computer shows strange searches. He says they aren't his. And then there are the persistent calls on his mobile phone.

So what really did happen to Nick's beautiful wife? And what was in that half-wrapped box left so casually on their marital bed? In this novel, marriage truly is the art of war.

"Only finished it out of annoyance"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I really didn't care about either of the main characters in this book which doesn't lend itself for an enjoyable read... people have compared this to Girl on the Train, but I have to say I preferred that immensely to this. Maybe I would have preferred it in printed form as the narrator wasn't easy to listen to but can't say I'd recommend it... although millions of people have bought it so it's obviously just my taste :)

    "Great Story!"

Really disliked the voices which sounds horrible to say but I found them very irritating. Almost stopped listening.
Loved all the twists and turns. Amy is such a great character!

    Story
    "Worth persevering"

This is a well written story told through the eyes of the two key players, I liked the dual narration. I found it quite slow to get in to but it is worth persevering. It tells the story of a wife who has disappeared and a husband who despite his protestations, is suspected of killing her. However this is no did he do it story because we as readers know a lot more than the police do. The story has twists and turns and you do not know what is going to happen next; the ending is good. I did not like either character but interestingly, this did not matter much. If you like a crime story with a difference, this is worth buying.

    Story
    "brilliant from start to finish"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

would definitely recommend this audiobook in fact i already have.
The narration was excellently done. Each chapter made you want to carry on to the next.

What did you like best about this story?

you were able to transport yourself as a fly on the wall seeing what was happening the emotions which were being portrayed at the time. you were able to to feel the anger and frustration from Nick. The constant disbelief of what was happening. Could someone really be so cruel in the name of love?
Brilliant!!!! well done and well played out.

What about Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s performance did you like?

At first i was a bit confuse to how Nicks character was supposed to be as he did not match up to the flash character he was portrayed as in his youth but then as the story unfolds you begin to understand the transformation.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

yes near the ending but i wont elaborate on that as i don't want to spoil it for others.

    Any additional comments?

nowt else i can say really apart from Brilliant!!!

Very cleverly written. This story never seems to go where you expect it to and is full of surprises.

Or, sociopathic nightmare. Utterly brilliant characterisation, charming, romantic, funny and horrifying.
    Incredibly creative and fulfilling.
    A must.
