Excellent

A breakthrough novel in the series, which has always been good, this entry has everything I hope for in a mystery/suspense/police procedural: compassion, intelligence, great characters and a story line that is a puzzle but is entirely plausible. A few good twists and moments that are truly heartbreaking without being maudlin, this is my very favorite in the series so far. Can’t wait t o see what’s next.

Love this series !

Another gripping book in this series. The story was contemporary reflecting the times we live in . As usual DC Wolfe gets a bit battered and bruised! The relationship between him and his daughter is beautifully written. These books are read by a brilliant narrator who has the most “listenable” voice ,sorry I Know that is not an actual word. Can’t wait for the next installment!

Great book great narrator

I've read all books in this series and this blew me away with the painful story, losses and an ending I never saw coming. The narrator is a perfect fit for the main character. I can't wait for the next book.

Great!

I especially liked this book, Girl On Fire, and hope there will be more to come in this series. My stepfather flew fighter jets in WWII, and I kept his framed copy of the poem Max read to Scout, High Flight, I think it's called, "then I reached out and touched the face of God" ! I couldn't believe that the author chose that as one of the poems he had the character Max read to his young daughter. It's such a beautiful poem, it always brings tears to my eyes. The beautiful description of the love the father Max has for his daughter, and how they talk to each other, actually made me cry. I think it was the part where Max asked Scout whether she wanted to live with her mother and how he felt about Scout. What beauty in those words and the whole depicted scene. Yes, 'The Man Can Write!"

Absolute best

Right now, Tony Parsons hits it all for me-literate but unpretentious, covers important issues without ever getting preachy, and gives you distinctly drawn, deeply human characters. (That last even covers Stan the dog,-who seems as human as anyone I know).

Colin Mace is a pitch perfect reader for this book.

The Best Police Procedural Series Ever !

Tony Parsons' Max Wolfe books comprise the best "police procedural" series I have ever listened to. Over the course of the 5 Max Wolfe books Parsons brings to life a series of richly developed characters and totally credible plot lines.

If you are interested in this series you really need to begin with Book 1 of this series ("The Murder Bag"). Here you will be introduced to men and women of London's West End Central's major crimes unit as well as DC Max Wolfe, his daughter Scout and their dog Stan.

The story lines of this series are not gimmicky or contrived and the characters are human and complex. Though each book is a stand-alone work the listener would be well served to begin with book 1.

Colin Mace brings these stories to life with an absolutely expert narration.

Like the title of this review says, simply the best realistic police procedural series there is.
