Publisher's Summary

A Crackling Good Mystery....

Crime reporter Nichelle Clarke's days can flip from macabre to comical with a beep of her police scanner. Then an ordinary accident story turns extraordinary when evidence goes missing, a prosecutor vanishes, and a sexy Mafia boss shows up with the headline tip of a lifetime. As Nichelle gets closer to the truth, her story gets more dangerous. Armed with a notebook, a hunch, and her favorite stilettos, Nichelle races to splash these shady dealings across the front page before this deadline becomes her last.

Critic Reviews

"Delightful, with engaging characters, a crackling good mystery, and of course, high, high heels. LynDee Walker writes with wit and intelligence and the confidence of a newsroom insider. What fun!" (Harley Jane Kozak, Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity Award-Winning Author of Dating Dead Men and Keeper of the Moon)
"This is a joy to read: Nichelle is a likeable character who does put her nose into whatever seems curious to her…the book can be read in one sitting thanks to the easy and casual language the author has employed in writing the book. Highly recommended to the fans of cozy mysteries!" (Mystery Tribune)
"Gives those designer shoes a workout! Nicey's adventure kept me guessing. Goes down as smooth as hot chocolate with whipped cream." (Alice Loweecey, Author of the Falcone and Driscoll Investigations)

Nichelle pulls on her big girl shoes and steps up

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have already recommended this book to many of my mystery loving friends. To my mind it shows character growth and development to a much greater degree than most of the "cosy" genre. Nichelle knows what she wants, and goes out to get it, without a lot of demure second thoughts or bumbling coincidences, but plenty of sass.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The competition between Nichelle and her rivals, both print and broadcast, is too close to call. While we essentially are focused on her side of the story, the competition get plenty of time and makes Nichelle work for whatever bits of story that she gets first. I also have to mention I also have to put in a good word for Troy, a great little brother and a very loving son.

Which character – as performed by Reay Kaplan – was your favorite?

Rather than pick a favorite, I will say that Reay did an excellent job in making each of the major and supporting characters come alive in their own way. I think she did it in a way that the author, Lyndee Walker, would be overjoyed with. Nothing to take issue with here.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Come out of the morgue with all those dead icky things and let a nice pair of heels lead you into crime.

Any additional comments?

A wonderful way to spend a few hours when you need to be hands and eyes free.

I'm desperate for another!

Can't wait to continue on with this series. Excellent narrator and great read overall. I see there are four books out, yet Audible only has two available. Really hope to see the others become available soon - take my money!! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery and a likable heroine!

High Heels Fool You

Because protagonist wears stiletos, I thought this book would be more like a Stephanie Plum or Kyra Davis, but it actually had substance to the story and some violence. Not light hearted at all. I found I enjoyed the story once I stopped looking for the jokes. I have purchased her next book and am looking forward to a real journalistic mystery.

fun, interesting and well worth the listen

Where does Front Page Fatality rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoyed it as much as any I've listened to. The writing is fast paced with the perfect balance of humor and tension. Good story, held my interest from start to finish.

Wrong accent

The narrator is fine but having a hard time figuring out why she sounds like she's from New Orleans when she is supposed from Texas.

The attempt at humor missed the boat

Just okay. Little suspense too many references to the high heels with little to no relevance to the story. I think the author was going for Bitty Hollandale of the Dixie Divas but missed the boat.

The reader was terrible. Her southern dialect was just plain awful.

Only made it through the first two chapters.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Maybe the written version is better, I just couldn't get past the narrator. It seemed to me that the jokes and the murder details and the location of the copier are all delivered in the same tone. It lost me.
