Publisher's summary

French Quarter Vendetta is an old fashioned whodunit. Set in historic, fun loving New Orleans, the plot untangles a tale of murder, mystery, betrayal and jealousy. Follow along as Lieutenant James "Gator" McNeal and his team wade through a list of suspects that include a union president, a state senator's wife, a jealous mistress, a spoiled stepson, an ambitious assistant, a union thug and even a street kid and two-bit drug dealer. Along the way you'll run into a strange, cryptic vision, the power of a gris-gris bag and even a voodoo curse. You won't be able to put it down until the very end when Gator brings everyone together and reveals the murderer.

Murders Big Easy Style

The series has promise however it also needs some fine tuning.

I found this book to be a bit muddled and confusing as there were multiple crimes and perpetrates. It was hard to keep everyone straight. Also the ancillary crimes were at best only loosely connected to the major murder mystery.

The primary perpetrator of the primary murder was very easy, in fact too easy to ascertain.

The narration was okay, however it could also use some polishing. At times it sounded like a kid reading to a classroom.

In addition I found the dialogue to be trite, cheesy and stereotypical.

All in all it was an okay listen.

I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Old school noir with great sense of place

Old school, hard boiled detective novel set in New Orleans. Well written and true to the genre.

Well plotted, well written. I enjoyed the ambiance and descriptions of the setting, as well as the main characters.

I enjoyed the narrator. His voice was a very good match for he main character for me and the performance was well paced.

Love this series by Gary Graybill

This series is excellent. I love New Orleans and when I listen to these stories I can picture every place described. I can smell the smells and feel the air on my skin. I love the mystery and the twist and turns. Keeps you guessing till the end.
I love the slow southern methods of Gator.
My only regret is that Theo Holland did not narrate all of the series. He has a wonderful voice and absolutely perfect for this series. I'm sorry I could NOT listen to the narrator in Madi Gras Death Mask nor The Bourbon St Murders. If you could have Theo Holland read those two stories in the series, I would buy them again.
I'm hoping Murder Bayou Style will be released as an audible (with Theo Holland narrating).
More stories please.

Good Police Procedural with a New Orleans Flavor

Although the story was well-plotted and held my interest, I found myself struggling with some of the narration. There wasn't enough difference in the various voices for me to distinguish who was speaking and I would've liked more variation in the actual tone. It seemed rather flat. Even so, I enjoyed it enough that I'd listen to another in the series.

It Wasn't Voodoo

How many ways can you commit murder? Shooting seems too common; how about a radioactive cigar, poisoned chocolates, a little snake venom, or being fed to an alligator? This story has ingenious ways to murder starting with a senator, then two more , and possibly another person now missing. This has touches of noir and humor. I was gifted this from Audiobookworm for my honest review.

A good Mystery

French Quarter Vendetta was a well written and well narrated audio book with great sound quality. What really pulled me into to the story was the author's ability to bring the french quarter life in this audio book as someone who has vacationed there I can say that the author really did keep the scene accurate and realistic. I loved the mystery elements and I was surprised by the ending!

A complex Case New Orleans Style

A pair of New Orleans police officers are tasked with solving a complex case involving the murder of a State Senator.
It took a little while before I became engrossed in the story, but once I got into it I really enjoyed it.

I especially enjoyed the New Orleans flavor: the language, the style, the people and their mentality. The narrator clearly understood this and did a good job of portraying the style of each character.

Ok

i received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

Here, a state senator is murdered and the suspects include his wife, his son, and his mistress. Lt. James Gator McNeal is assigned to the case.

I absolutely wanted to really like this book - afterall it's set in The Big Easy. Unfortunately, the MC Gator is annoying - addressing women as darlin - stiff and uninteresting. The mystery was not all that difficult to figure out - making you wonder why it took Gator so long.

The narrator was flat - completely flat. He sounded bored and disinterested which definitely ditracted from the enjoyment of the story.

Great crime book set in New Orleans

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was so much going on which at times made it hard to keep track of who everyone was and what they were doing. However, if you pay attention....this book is wonderful. Action packed, interesting characters, and lots of twists and surprises. I loved it!!! Gator is a wonderful main character and the narrator really gave him southern charm and charisma. Theo Holland impressed me with how every character was distinctive and you could tell who they were by the voice. He definitely made you feel like you were standing in New Orleans following the crime scenes and investigation. I would highly recommend this book.

Gator

This is the best mystery I have ever listened to. It has enough clues to keep you 100 percent interested in the story. Gator is smart he figured it out all The characters are good . This is a five star book. They need to be a ten star for books like this. This would make a good movie. This book does not get the recognition it needs.Theo Holland does a great job narraiting this book. If my review was any help will you please click the helpful link. Thank you
