Publisher's summary

Handpicked by Rhys Bowen, Jasmine Blackborow is the dazzling narrator for the 12th installment of Rhys Bowen's best-selling Royal Spyness Mystery series.

Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live.

Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. With Darcy off in parts unknown, Georgie makes her way to Eynsleigh alone, only to find the grounds in disarray, and the small staff suspiciously incompetent. Not to mention the gas tap leak in her bedroom, which is beginning to look like an attempt on her life. Something sinister is afoot - and bringing the place up to snuff may put Georgie six feet under before she even gets a chance to walk down the aisle....

Arguably, the best yet.

First off, don't read the review by M. Kelley with the heading- "4 Funerals, etc" OR Wayne's review titled-"Let's discuss the narration" if you don't want a spoiler.
(thanks a lot M. and Wayne! what were you thinking?)
As someone who preorders any new book in this series, I was both sorry about Katherine Kellgren's much too young death and somewhat shamefully selfishly thinking of how that would affect my enjoyment of the rest of the series. Jasmine Blackborow does a more than adequate job and by the middle of the book, I had pretty much gotten used to it. When one of the recurring characters showed up, it was inevitable that the mind did a comparison but then the story took over again and the issue forgotten again. If J. B. had been the narrator from book one onward until this title and suddenly K. K. had taken over for this title, I honestly believe it would have been a harder to get past shift. As great as K. K. 's narration was, her distinctive voices would have suddenly seemed over the top.

The storyline is this installment was one of the very best in the series with another quite original crime(s) to be worked out. The pace was good and kept me listening even though I wanted to stop just so it wouldn't end so soon.

The big problem with this book though is glaringly self evident though and it's certainly not with the new narrator. It is that now we have to wait till next summer for the next title.

Well done Jasmine Blackborow

I consider Katherine Kellgren one of my favorite narrators. I was very pleased with Jasmine Blackborow’s performance. She did not try to copy the voices Kathrine used. I liked that. Thank you for making me continue to love Royal Spyness mystery’s.

Read volumes 12 & 13 instead!

The narrator for the previous books passed away and her loss is very noticeable in this book and the next in the series. Georgie is different. Darcy’s pleasurable Irish lilt is lost and a majority of the other characters are all read as if they had just woken up from a long winter’s nap, or, they have an ugly speech impediment. I had such a great time listening to this series until this volume. I still enjoyed the story — same fun mystery, but I found myself critiquing the delivery of each line instead of focusing on the story. I truly missed the previous voice of Darcy. He just doesn’t have the same appeal now. Sad.

Quite good

Overall this is a good story. Darcy is absent from most of the book and i feel that I would have enjoyed it much better if he had been included more.

Regarding the narrator, I believe she did a good job; however, she had a big miss while portraying Darcy. He sounded like a woman and that was disappointing for me. I don’t know if this series will continue, but if there is a new installment, I hope the narrator practices so that Darcy’s voice is more masculine.

For me, it was worth a credit.

Another great book in the Royal Spyness series.

I hate when they end, I do enjoy them for the light reading. I can't wait for the next one!

Jasmine Blackborrow captured the characters perfectly with her narration. The store is pure Georgia mayhem.

Big shoes to fill

Jasmine had some pretty big shoes to fill. Not only did she surpass my expectations, but she made shoes of her own for being the voice of a long-running series which is not an easy thing to do.

The story tended to drag on a bit. Being used to the story format by now, the clues are scattered and teased throughout the story, but this one seemed to take its time getting on with it.

Love the series! The romance, the personalities, and the historical “politics” are intriguing with a good story structure. Keep up the good work!
