Publisher's summary

There's nothing like family during the holidays...unless one of those family members is in jail, and you're the cop who was responsible for putting him there.

Police Chief Aggie Malone is facing her first Christmas as a married woman, and hoping for a relatively uneventful holiday in the quiet Gulf Coast community of Dogleg Island where she, along with her perspicacious border collie Flash, is in charge of keeping the peace. She is still trying to find her place in the big, boisterous Grady family, but unlike Flash - and her own husband, Deputy Sheriff Ryan Grady - Aggie does not see the appeal of the holiday, and the magic of the season is completely lost on her.

The old-fashioned Christmas Grady has planned for his bride begins to unravel when Aggie's investigation into a homicide hit-and-run leads to the arrest of her own brother-in-law and exposes a crime syndicate that's responsible for spreading millions in counterfeit bills throughout the southeast. A police informant turns up dead, and evidence suggests his murder may be the result of corruption at the highest levels of law enforcement.

Flash, who is an expert at putting things together, understands that all these pieces of the puzzle are related, and with Aggie's help they'll soon be able to see the big picture. But not even Flash can foresee the demons their search for the truth will unearth. When the shadows from the past reach forward to cloud their future, Aggie, Grady, and Flash find the limits of their loyalty tested, even as they discover the lengths to which they will go to protect the ones they love.

This third book in the Dogleg Island series does not disappoint! The twists in the mystery and the extremely likable characters make this a great listen.

Best in the series... so far!

This is the best story in the series... so far! One of the reasons I like it more is it's a bit darker than the others and I felt more on the edge. The characters continue to develop. Lorraine's tantrum had tears streaming down my face while I was driving to work. That Flash always puts a smile on my face with his funny thoughts. Some things were left unresolved so I'm hoping the next one will be as good.

The first book in the series had a monotone narrator that I finally got used to. The second book switched narrators and even though I like her more, it took me a bit to adjust. It was good to pick up with the same narrator and move on.

I was not disappointed!

Donna Bell, a creative genus, weaving a story through a labyrinth of mystery and murder!
Wonderfully written with believable characters you will fall in love with! Tiny clues so cleverly interwoven throughout that you find yourself with the feeling that you are solving the the mystery right along with Flash! The only distraction is the change narrators! Ann Simmons was the first narrator and did a better job distinguishing all different characters voices! Ann Simmons is Aggie Malone!!

Flash love

I adore the characters this story. The plot is complex but comes together in the end. Flash is my favorite furbaby because he questions the situation and learns. Learning is so important to the conclusion. I recommend this story, even if you haven't read the previous stories. I can't wait to read the next book.

Police Can’t Pull You Over For No Reason

For some reason this really infuriated me LOL. The amount of stress I’d go through all for them to congratulate me for driving well? I’d legit sue them. I enjoy all of Donna’s books but don’t put things like this in them when they are so far from true and it isn’t a cute trope in the days of police misconduct and brutality imo.

Wonderful

These Flash books keep getting better as they go. Almost as good as the Raine Stockton series. And Donna Postel narrating is fabulous. Thank you Donna Ball for another wonderful book.
