You probably need to already love the characters

A serial killer is targeting teenagers, and clinical psychologist Tony Hill and DCI Carol Jordan are on the cases, which initially don’t appear related. Good backstory on Tony’s mother. You probably need to already love the characters to love this, but I do, enough so that I immediately started the next in the series as soon as I finished. Bechdel test: Pass.

Great Series

I like to follow series. This is probably the most consistent in quality story to story. Thus far not a dud in the lot. I gave this one a 4 but for me they all come very close to 5 stars. I highly recommend this series for extended reading.

Author is great. Reader makes me hostile.

Would you try another book from Val McDermid and/or Gerard Doyle?

Val McDermid, yes. Gerard Doyle - If I had a choice between shoving a meat thermometer into my eardrum or listening to Gerard Doyle narrate another book, I would, without hesitation, choose the former.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fever of the Bone?

It's hard to say as I'm still trying to slog through the audio. I love the writer and this series, and this book is probably excellent. However, I just paid nearly $25 to listen to what is quite possibly the worst orator of all history.

Would you be willing to try another one of Gerard Doyle’s performances?

Offer me a paid vacation in Cyprus with my own personal pool boy and I would probably still refuse.

Was Fever of the Bone worth the listening time?

If... you don't mind.... listening... to someone... who speaks in monotone.... and always seems... as if they're not quite done with.... a sentence?

Any additional comments?

I'm new to audible and find it quite amazingly expensive. I'm not thrilled about having paid $25 for a book I can barely stand to listen to. Considering cancelling my subscription.

Excellent read!

This is the first book I have read by the author, and I was pleasantly surprised. Well written, great story with a couple twists.

Great narration and very good story

I always enjoy Gerard Doyle's performance and Val McDermid tells another engrossing story full of wonderful Brit slang.

Couldn't stop listening

This is no doubt one of McDermid's best. A well woven story integrating a contemporary theme regarding childbirth, parenting.

Fans of the show will enjoy these audiobooks

Any additional comments?

These books go into more detail than the show ever could and the performances are spot-on. Well rounded stories I listened to more than once, like a favorite pop song.

Fixating

did grasp the elements of the conclusion early in the story. However, the telling and twists if the unraveling plot fixated my attention. McDermid's details and descriptions are a masterful example of this genre.

Absolutely brilliant!

This is Val at her best. Wonderful story and breathtaking suspense. It helps that Gerard Doyle’s performance is pitch-perfect. Well worth a listen.
