Publisher's summary

He comes out when the sun goes down. He delivers death from the barrel of a rifle. He's made New York City his shooting gallery. Men and women, natives and tourists, young and old, have all been his victims. The press has named him The Night Sniper. He taunts those who would try to stop him, threatening to increase the body count unless legendary retired homicide detective Vin Repetto is willing to engage him in a lethal game of cat and mouse.

Repetto paid his dues. Over 20 years on the force, obtaining a captain's rank and injured in the line of duty, he's earned his retirement. Yet he can't help feeling responsible for the lives The Night Sniper has taken, and will continue to take if his challenge remains unanswered. The decision is snatched from his hands when the next victim is murdered right before Repetto's eyes. Now, the game is truly set to begin, but The Night Sniper doesn't realize that they're playing by Repetto's rules

Fear the Night

I felt this was one of John Lutz's best books. This book kept me sitting in my car listening until a chapter was over.

Fear the Night

Well written, fast paced. Worth listening to. Would have liked a slightly different ending, but ultimately the author puts everything together well, drawing to a dramatic close.

Worth the time

I thought this book was pretty good however the ending could have been a little better. All in all it was worth the time and I would recommend it.

Gripping and Predictable

I really loved "Fear the Night" and Lutz does himself proud with the riveting story of the night stalker terrorizing New York City in a post 9/11 mindset. Nobody does this stuff better than Lutz and I am always eager to read and or listen to his brilliant predictability. Everything always turns out right and the good guys, often injured, just never bite the bullet. Still, in hindsight, while he keeps you enthralled all the way to the end, you never should have had any doubt that in Lutz-world the nice guys always win.

interesting angle: a solid 3/5

I really liked the "homeless" angle taken in this book ... it lead to a wealth of possibilities! Despite a slow start, it is worth sticking with the book to see the characters fully develop. There are however, too many of them so it is might be tough to keep up. Especially with the shifts back in time. A little crass at times and clearly "New York" blue collar.

A Good Listen!

The Author manages to keep your attention from beginning to end. Although the ending was a little weak, for the many hours of suspenceful build-up, it was an enjoyable listening experience. My first John Lutz book and I was not disappointed.

The Pits!!

I'm amazed that other folks liked this book. The story could have been told in 5 paragraphs, but you have to slog thru 6 hrs. It's slow, boring, really poorly written, and evidently unedited. I don't even like the narrator, but that may be the book and not his fault.

I've never read any other books by Lutz, so I can't compare. But don't waste your money on this one.
