Publisher's summary

Transplanted Boston Brahmin, Mercy Allcutt, has had some very exciting times as secretary to private investigator, Ernie Templeton. While it’s true she’s been in what she considers a wee bit of trouble (and Ernie considers out-and-out danger) a time or two, she’s determined to continue learning the ways of the “real” world.

However, when she sets out to find her wandering boss, Ernie, one hot September afternoon, she not only discovers a corpse, but she also finds Ernie, bound and gagged. Worse, when the police arrive to investigate the crime, they peg Ernie as the killer.

Well, Mercy isn’t about to let them get away with that, no matter how many times Ernie tells her to butt out of the police inquiry. The only question is whether she’ll survive her investigatorial efforts once again, or if she’ll become one more “Fallen Angel.”

Great "angels" series

If you could sum up Fallen Angels in three words, what would they be?

Fun historical mystery

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fallen Angels?

I was surprised that earnie was involved at the murder scene. I did not expect to find him in the house.

Have you listened to any of Darlene Allen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes . This narrator has the gift of becoming her characters. Excellent, as are all the books I have listened to by her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have if I could have.

Any additional comments?

This is a fun series . Well written good historical accuracy of the 1920s.

Another great book by Alice Duncan

Alice Duncan (author), Darlene Allen ( narrator), and Mercy Allcutt (character) equals another very interesting book from Alice Duncan. All five of the mercy Allcutt books are very fun reads, the narration is great and the stories and dialogue keep you interested right to the end. One can only hope that Alice Duncan has a little more "Mercy" in her to share with us readers

Good escapism

historical-novel, historical-research, humor, private-investigators, law-enforcement, family-dynamics, friendship, amateur-sleuth

Mercy Allcutt is a naive feminist from a moneyed Boston family which has relocated to 1926 Los Angeles. She is secretary to a private eye who is less than socially correct and she finds him in a situation where he is the prime suspect in the murder of a recent client. As the investigating police detective would dearly love to prove that Ernie is guilty, Mercy begins doing her own sleuthing in her own way. Good fun with some historical background included.
My copy is narrated by Darlene Allen who has a good way of differentiating characters and making then come more alive.

Good Series

Mercy is once again giving us another delightful caper. She goes to find her boss, gagged and a corpse. Now why would police think he is guilty.
Love the character and the setting of the #20s. The audio is good and bring her character to life. Given my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Wasted my money

No mystery with her continues talk of wealth, pursing lips, and ignorance I couldn't even finish the book.
