Publisher's Summary

New York book editor Maris Matherly-Reed knows a best seller when she sees one - even if it is just a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identified only as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgia coast. Maris is intrigued enough to search for him.

Her trip to Georgia to meet the mysterious author takes her to an eerie, ruined cotton plantation, where Maris finds Parker Evans, a man confined to a wheelchair who carefully hides his past. Coaxing his novel from him chaper by chapter, Maris becomes caught up in his tale of two friends who rent a boat with a young woman for a night of sex and drinking. Only one person will return from that trip.

Disturbed about her sexual attraction to Parker and worried about her marriage to author and her co-publisher Noah Reed, Maris returns to New York, where the delivery of Parker's newest chapters convince her they are more than fiction. She wonders how well she knows her husband and begins a harrowing search for a truth that ties back to a terrifying crime and a man who will use her, or anyone, to get his revenge.

What would have made Envy better?

Horrible story line and characters. Saw good reviews and bought book. How anyone could give this book a positive review is beyond me. Ridiculous book.

What could Sandra Brown have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Not written it.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Performance was okay considering what reader had to work with

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Redeeming qualities? No No No

    "Awesome is an understatement!"
If you could sum up Envy in three words, what would they be?

    Unexpected; Surprising; Satisfying

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The overall storyline was so unusual - there were stories within the story - plots within the plot and surprises at every turn.

What does Victor Slezak bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It's isn't enough to say the characters were brought to life - they were right there with you the entire book. It was as if you were part of every scene.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    YES!!

    Any additional comments?

Sandra Brown has always been one of my favorite authors - however, this is by far the best novel I have read/listened to over the past few years! It really kept your attention and provided so many surprises that I wanted to keep driving just to listen to the book!

It took me a bit to get used to the Narrator, but once I did, I was drawn in. I enjoyed everything about this book. I listened to it on my drive to work and home and towards the end I couldn't stop...I totally enjoyed it! Thank You!

    "Best book yet!"
Who was your favorite character and why?

I didn't appreciate Parker at first but he grew on me as I figured out the storyline.

Have you listened to any of Victor Slezak’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Victor is an excellent narrator!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I enjoyed listening to it at different points in time as it kept me wanting more. It was easy to catch up to the characters and plot as there were few characters and a linear story.

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Sandra Brown's.

    "Met my listening expectations."
Would you consider the audio edition of Envy to be better than the print version?

No. The content would be the same.

What did you like best about this story?

    It kept me engaged.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I've always read/listened that way.

    Any additional comments?

I like Sandra Brown's more recent books much better than her early ones. There is less gratuitous sex and more intelligence expected of the reader.

"Suspense abounds in this story within a story"
Would you listen to Envy again? Why?

Yes, you get two great stories for the price of one in this book. It has all the elementsgood writing, good character development, suspense, and romance.I could not stop listening, and when I came to the end I chided myself for finishing so quickly.

What did you like best about this story?

The love/hate/jealousy triangle relationship between the three main characters: Maris, Parker, and Noah. The twists and turns of the story kept this reader asking. "what' going to happen next?"

What does Victor Slezak bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He had the dialects of each character down pat.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was a rollercoaster ride for me, happy for the love that developed between Maris and Parker, saddened by each character's personal losses, before and after the acts of revenge.

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this book to other readers. Sandra Brown's books are always entertaining.

    "Spectacular read!"
Where does Envy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Wow, it is very close to the top. Great plot twists and story line. This book kept me on the edge. Envy will keep me reading future Sandra Brown books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Parker Evans. I loved his wit.

What does Victor Slezak bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is great with changing the character voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

There were numerous great lines in the book. Any would work.

    Any additional comments?

I am from the deep south and Victor
Slezak needs to get a better handle on the southern dialect.

Only 2nd Sandra Brown book I've listened to and I liked both of them. Characters are love/hate and I looked forward to getting into my car each day to see what was going on with hubby & wife.

    Any additional comments?

I am hooked. Sandra Brown again delivers an incredible book. Victor Slezak does a remarkable job with the narration. I think he is my favorite so far. I intend to continue purchasing books from this author. I am so pleasently surprised by the depth of characters and the fascinating storylines. While Envy has a more somewhat guessable plot, it is so well written that again, there is never a dull moment.

I highly recommend this author and narrator. Can't wait for the next one. I am going shopping now!
