Publisher's Summary

Dexter Morgan is not your average serial killer. He enjoys his day job as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Department... but he lives for his nighttime hobby of hunting other killers. Dexter is therefore not pleased to discover that someone is shadowing him, observing him, and copying his methods. Dexter is not one to tolerate displeasure... in fact, he has a knack for extricating himself from trouble in his own pleasurable way.

Like the previous five best-selling novels in the Dexter series, Double Dexter showcases the witty, macabre originality that has propelled Jeff Lindsay to international success. Double Dexter is raucously entertaining... full of smart suspense and dark laughs.

From the Hardcover edition.

Would you listen to Double Dexter again? Why?

I cannot tolerate Jeff Lindsay's narration. His characters are amazing and I have loved all of his books, but I can never buy another book narrated by him. His writing is wonderful and his story lines are always fresh. I just find it disturbing the way he interprets his own characters.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jeff Lindsay?

I love Nick Landrum. He has the characters down pat. His children's voices are the best. His interpretation of Rita is killer.( oops!)

    Any additional comments?

Please, bring Nick back into our lives as Dexter. This is one of my favorite all time book series. I love Dexter.

"I think I like this Dexter better than Showtime's"

Okay, this (if you can imagine) had this "feel good" feel to it after I was done.

That being said, the climax part was really UBER cheesy, and really quite "un-Dexter-like." I'd have to say that this one, out of all six, had me feeling the largest range of emotions as I listened to it. Anticipation, fear, happy, relieved, the whole spectrum is there. And I love this Dexter even more now, I think, than Showtime's Dexter. Although it's messing with my head a bit, knowing the series is about to start it's next season, and the relationships (particularly that between Dexter and his sister, Deborah) are so very different between the books and the show.

I can say that I'm DEFINITELY looking for the next Dexter by Jeff Lindsay now! :)

    "Dexter is human???"

This wasn't the best of the "Dexter" books - but it wasn't bad. There might have been a few times when Dexter was uncharacteristically oblivious to certain tell-tale signs that he was about to get busted - but, I can see how the author needed some plot twists. Still, they were a bit too obvious. However, overall, it was very entertaining. The audiobook version, which was read by the author himself, was very well done. We're now starting to see a "near-human" side of Dexter, and that is actually sort of refreshing. And I like how the books almost completely diverge from the television show. But, the author is going to have to step it up a bit if he hopes to stay a edgy and clever as the show! Gauntlet down!

    "Dumb Dexter"
Would you try another book from Jeff Lindsay and/or Jeff Lindsay?

Worst Dexter story ever. Predictable. Dexter has a bad case of the stupids. I was so frustrated with the story as I could figure it out by the end of the first quarter of the story. I did however finally get my reward for sticking with it and the last 2 or 3 chapters were great.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jeff Lindsay? Why or why not?

    Sure.

Was Double Dexter worth the listening time?

    Frustrating.

    "Disappointing"
What disappointed you about Double Dexter?

While I enjoyed the first Dexter, I was disappointed in this book. Lindsay has a tendency to overstate and repeat the same thoughts in Dexter's inner conversations. While he did this in the first book to a degree, in this one it felt like filler. On top of that the plot felt contrived and Dexter seemed more than just

Has Double Dexter turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not the genre but the series.

Which character ??? as performed by Jeff Lindsay ??? was your favorite?

Rita. She is very clearly drawn and quite humorous as written and portrayed.

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

As I said I enjoyed the inner and outer conversations in some scenes.

    Any additional comments?

Don't read this first to get a feeling for Dexter.

"Disappointing Dexter - a relative term"

I have loved the Dexter series and was expecting Dexter to go out with a BIG BANG. I have to believe we haven't seen the end of Dexter....Dexter will begin the Dexter Code for Cody and Aster. What a great new direction for a new series to move. How about it?

"As with the others, enjoyed the latest Dexter novel"

Liked seeing Dexter evolving as a character and enjoyed the story. Dexter hasn't disappointed so far! The cat and mouse game in the story was fun, but I wondered if Dexter wasn't deviating from his strict adherence to Harry's code in the beginning when he planned on killing his witness from the get go. Still, it all turned out well in the end. As for all the complaints about Lindsay's narration - are all you folks paid by Nick Landrum to belly ache? Enough already. I liked Landrum as well, but Lindsay is a decent narrator too. Listen to the story, or if you can't get beyond the narrator, try reading the book instead so that you can get back to enjoying the series.

    "Best Dexter so far"

In my opinion this is the best Dexter novel so far. The storyline great and paced well. It was unique from the other novels to keep you interested yet familiar enough that made it very easy to listen and follow.

Jeff Lindsay narrated and it was excellent. He really did a good job with all the characters.

Overall if you liked the other Dexter novels, or perhaps you use to like the older Dexter novels until he digressed with the last couple - this one is excellent and has the same feeling that the first couple novels had.
