Publisher's summary

With the arrival of six senior reading group members at the Merry Ghost Inn, the long-awaited grand opening week has finally begun for Melanie West and her grandmother Liza. All is well with the Oregon coast-side B&B until Melanie's dog, Max, finds the dead body of one of their guests.

Everyone at the inn immediately falls under suspicion, including the innkeepers themselves. Melanie and Liza are not sure who they can trust, and the idea of cohabitating with a murderer is enough to send chills down anyone's spine. To make matters worse, the curmudgeonly town detective wants them to steer clear of the investigation, but doesn't seem too inspired to solve the case in a timely fashion himself. To clear their own names and to avoid the blight on the inn's reputation that yet another dead body will bring, Melanie and Liza dive headlong into the murder investigation.

With a little help from their chuckling ghost, Melanie and Liza dodge the detective, tip-toe around their suspicious guests, and still serve up delicious bed-and-breakfast meals on time in Kate Kingsbury's delightful second Merry Ghost Inn mystery, Doom with a View.

Great setting; fun cozy mystery

Great setting. Love the rambling house and the beautiful coastal town.
Loved the senior citizen bookclub field trip. I hope I’m doing something like that when I’m 70 years young.
And as always, really love the ghost.
A few sloppy errors — 2 lunches in one day, wrong names used (Liza instead of Cindy, Melissa instead of Melanie, etc), Liza referencing a part of the party she wasn’t present for, things like that that the editor should have caught.
Climax was a little ridiculous not to mention idiotic—the police should arrest Liza and Melanie for obstruction just to scare some sense into them. But the murderer motivation was solid and the reveal worked; the confession felt authentic.
The narration is pretty spectacular too.
Overall it was a fun listen and a little better crafted than the first one in the series, ensuring I’ll be returning to the Merry Ghost Inn yet again before too long.

Good Stories, narrators voice for Liza makes me shudder

So I like the story, love the ghost. Narration is mostly good but The voice used for Liza annoys me. She sounds high pitched and whinny. I know many people in their 70's and none of them sound like that.

I may switch to reading the books rather than listening.

Wonderful second in the series

I absolutely love this series. Cute and engaging stories without gore or explicit content. Reminiscent of the style of the Murder, She Wrote tv series. Looking forward to more releases.

Really?

Who finds a body on their driveway and then goes in to fix breakfast while they wait for the ambulance leaving the body alone on the driveway? This has started out really badly and I really hope it gets better. I don’t like to criticize writers but this has been almost impossible to listen to so far.

Disappointed

Third in the series and by far the worst. Characters were more developed but became more unlikable. The narrator over emotes just about everyone and Eliza so obnoxious I began to dread her. The ex husband needs to go away. He adds nothing to the story and he was right when he told Melanie to get over it. Geesh she can move on and still feel sorrow but tired of her wallowing in it.

Ok listen since it was an Included book

The main character Melanie is quite dull and close-minded. She's either near tears or personality-free. Her grandmother Liza is a much more interesting personality, and the dog Max is sweet. The narrator is pretty good, she give each character a different voice. She does have a tendency to read the 'thrilling' parts with a sort of crying voice, and Liza's voice is often quavering which doesn't fit her feisty personality.

Worse than a bad Hallmark movie

No character development, ridiculous conversations, thoroughly annoying main characters. The laughing ghost and Max the dog were the only parts of the book that I could handle.

Seriously???

On their opening of the inn, one of their first guests dies of a supposed heart attack. Melanie finds him laying in the driveway and leaves him to go to the kitchen and call 911. No one stays with the body & attempts CPR until the medics arrive!! And then Melanie and Liza continue making breakfast with complete disregard to the life of one of their guests!!! Incredible! I certainly would not want to stay at an inn where it’s proprietors have complete disregard for human life!!
