Publisher's Summary

The extraordinary new novel in the number-one New York Times best-selling series.

A Japanese cargo ship cruises the eastern Atlantic near the Azores- when it bursts into flames. A gang of pirates speeds to take advantage of the disaster - when their boat explodes. What is happening in that part of the world? As Kurt Austin, Joe Zavala, and the rest of the NUMA(r) Special Assignments Team rush to investigate, they find themselves drawn into the extraordinary ambitions of an African dictator, the creation of a weapon of almost mythical power, and an unimaginably audacious plan to extort the world's major nations. Their penalty for refusal? The destruction of their greatest cities.

Filled with the high-stakes suspense and boundless invention unique to Cussler, Devil's Gate is one of the most thrilling novels yet from the grand master of adventure.

Another five star!

Would you listen to Devil's Gate again? Why?

Definitely Yes. Story had many characters, much action, good plot development. Much back and forth between scenes / characters. Found myself "rewinding" to make sure I hadn't missed anything. Would eagerly listen to this book again now that I better understand the twists and turns in the plot. Could now listen continuously without having to occasionally "rewind."

What other book might you compare Devil's Gate to and why?

Almost all of CC's books utilize a similar type of flash from one scene to another. Several characters appear in CC's books. Each set of characters has a small subplot related to the major plot.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Scott Brick is phenomenal in his portrayal of male, female, and foreign dialect voices. No problem ever identifying what role he is playing at any given moment.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The dramatic escape from the minisub and the utilization of the robot Rapunzel in this escape.

Any additional comments?

I NEVER hesitate to burn a credit for a CC book narrated by Scott Brick. I've NEVER been disappointed. Five star in all categories!!

Awesome....

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott has a voice that has been tuned to the same frequency as Cussler... he has read a number of them, and now when I hear one he did not read, it takes me a while to start enjoying it..... Cussler and Brick, a number one combo!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Frequent Listener

I have to say that I have read or listened to over 12 of Clive Cusslers books, next to the Will Lee book "Chiefs", this is my second favorite book. Suspensful, well read and entertaining. No it isn't great literature, but it kept me interested and engaged. I was a little disappointed in "The Jungle", but this one made up for it.

My style of story

This book was exactly for my taste. Fast paced with lot of adventures. Strong characters. Cool mass destruction weapon, which was destructed by the end, of course. I don't know why I haven't read Cussler novels before, but I definitely will.

Really Enjoyable

I really enjoyed the presence of Dirk Pitt as Numa's director, and Sandecker. It makes sense. He SHOULD make appearances as director but is usually absent in the Kurt Austin books. I disliked how Kurt's hair was suddenly referred to as silver or gray where in all previous books they made it sound more sun-bleached white. There is a minor editing miss in the epilogue where it is stated twice that Gamay (SP) is sitting in a chaise longer, but overall the story flows really well.

Typical Cussler.

Would you try another book from Clive Cussler and Graham Brown and/or Scott Brick?

Like his books so yes.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

No surprised.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

Always does an excellent job with Cussler's characters

Do you think Devil's Gate needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There is always another one on the way.

Any additional comments?

Typical Cussler book, but some are getting far fetched.

devils gate part 1

Not one of Cusslers best, but still an interesting story. I have picked it up and put it down a few times. Not as gripping as some of his stories
