Publisher's summary

Doc Ford has long lived a double life. This time, it may finally have caught up to him. The electrifying new thriller from the New York Times best-selling author.

“I’ll make an example of someone close to you".

On a moonless night on Sanibel Island, Florida, marine biologist Marion “Doc” Ford carefully watches a video of a hooded man executing three hostages. The man is an American working with ISIS, and in the next few days, it’ll be Ford’s job, as part of his shadowy second life, to make sure he never kills anybody else again.

But a lot can go wrong in a few days, and Ford has no way of knowing that not only will the operation prove to be a lot more complicated than he has anticipated, but that he’ll end up bringing those complications back with him to the small community of boaters, guides, lovers, and friends in Dinkin’s Bay, where he’s long made his home.

Someone has taken Ford’s actions very personally, and now no one there is safe - least of all, Ford himself.

Better start listening now.

Critic reviews

“White continues to provide thinking readers with action-packed thrillers that are also thoughtful and informative...By the end, you won’t be able to read fast enough.” (Bookreporter.com)

“A trip to the Gulf Coast with Doc Ford is never dull…and White doesn’t skimp on the action.... This marine biologist increasingly lets his clandestine life as a government operative take him away from his quiet Sanibel Island home [and White] continues to find fresh ways to bring Ford into the chaos of world politics.” (South Florida Sun Sentinel)

“As with every Doc Ford story, the writing is tight and the story fast-paced.... [Fans of] thriller heroes from James Bond to Jason Bourne will find a lot to like.” (Associated Press)

Good read,

Starts good and liked the last 5 or so chapters, struggled in the middle chapters. Doc love interest in that area would have helped.

one of the best from the series!

as a long time fan of the series,I loved this installment. I thought the main antagonist was a bit "Bond villain" at times, but he contained some original twists that made him interesting and unsettlingly insane. Great book!

Entertaining as always

I enjoyed it right up until the ending. Thought that was a little soft. I have listened or read all of the Doc Ford series. I enjoy some more than others. I would recommend for sure, just not as good as some.

Another winner!

I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, as I always do. I've been a Doc Ford fan since the very first book. Randy Wayne White not only does a wonderful job of creating Doc Ford and his supporting cast, but his description of the area is so wonderfully done it makes me feel as though I'm actually there. George Guidall as always brings the characters to life. I highly recommend this book to not only Doc Ford fans, but also fans of mystery/suspense books.

Best Doc Ford novel in ages!

As a long-time follower of RWW's Doc Ford series, I've enjoyed great ones, silly ones, and several in the middle. (But I read them all because the great ones are in the majority!)

Deep Blue is a definite return to form, with Doc back in Latin America eliminating bad guys...but things don't go as planned: not even close to plan.

The action is excellent, and the soft, touchy-feely biologist from recent books is nowhere to be found.

Please, Mr. White -- give us more like this one!

Good Story Good Performance Almost Believable

You cannot make this stuff up. But, the author did. There's a little Jimmy Buffett and some Sherlock Holmes in the mix. Good read/listen.

Good summer read.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He is a fantastic narrator! Well suited for Doc Ford novels.

Any additional comments?
