Publisher's Summary

The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish, and beautiful. A girl who had everything...until she lost her life. Hercule Poirot recalled an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: "I'd like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger." Yet in this exotic setting nothing was ever quite what it seemed.

Poirot read by Suchet - this could never go wrong!

David Suchet is practically synonymous with Agatha Christie's Poirot, so it's simply wonderful that this audiobook is read by Suchet. His characterisations are perfect, subtle and entertaining, which make these audiobooks great listening. Dive in and enjoy this tale of mystery and murder of the picturesque River Nile, you'll be spellbound.

I Loved it!

Would you consider the audio edition of Death on the Nile to be better than the print version?

i enjoyed listening to this story on my iphone laying in my hammock sipping on a pims

What did you like best about this story?

I love the clever twists in this story and of course the characters are colorful and vivid.

Have you listened to any of David Suchet’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

David Suchet has come to be the voice of Poirot for me, his narration of the this classic transported me to a time i never knew yet fell in love with.

A beautiful story, masterfully told.

What did you love best about Death on the Nile?

Different to the movie in telling ways, but excellent.

What does David Suchet bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His profiling of the characters through his expressive voice brings them to life in a special way.

David Suchet narrating Poirot is a must!

Superb narration of one of my favourite Poirot stories. Poirot is brought to life in this retelling.

A generally pleasant listen.

Would recommend this book to a friend but it does require some suspension of disbelief. Also the characters are very Christie and whether or not you see that as positive or negative is up to you.

A few bugs

Story is excellent but seems to be a sound issue in chapter 6. You can hear everything it just sounds like you are in a tunnel

Excellent story, let down by narration

I think I've been spoiled by Hugh Fraser (why hasn't he recorded all of the Christie books?) - David Suchet's narration skills are surprisingly inadequate in comparison - even his Poirot. While he gives a masterly performance of Poirot on film, the voice is somehow wrong on audio format, too mincing, too weak. And his other character voices are truly awful, especially the women.

Agatha Christie at her best

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I enjoy David Suchet, but I though his depiction of Colonel Race was not the best

First Time ,

It was brilliantly narrated by David. Suchet ,it was more akin to a one man radio show ,the way he played each character, also because I have seen the TV version and the movie I could picture each character as I was listening ,I absolutely loved this way of having The book read to me .It's a very relaxing way of using a book as is normal reading but there's a difference I can't explain. It's worth trying an audio book ,like I have just done and will certainly again.

Silly but fun.

This is really enjoyable chewing gum detective fiction. Christie pretty much gives the game away at the start but the fun is following all of the twists and turns she brings you down before revealing the murderer.

There is a moment or two early on in the book where you feel it is going to be something more. The references to David and Bathsheba and, later, the Pharaohs make you think the book could have gone down a richer, more literary path. The author clearly chooses not to and instead gives us a fun story that winds its way all over the place before taking us back to the very start again.

No more voice characterisations, please,

Even you, David Suchet's, do not have 'the gift'. You attempt to voice all the characters in the story and you ruin the story, as originally intended by the author. Believe me, it can't be done out of one throat.
