Publisher's summary

Next Up for Auction: Murder.

When auctioneer Wren Morgan begins cataloging the contents of the Campbell mansion, she's unprepared to find something that can't be appraised - a dead man. After the body turns out to be a criminal with ties to a recent jewel heist, Wren comes face-to-face with Death Bogart. A private eye and part-time bounty hunter, Death is searching for the stolen jewels needed to convict a murderer.

Death finds a friend and willing ally in Wren, but they aren't the only ones searching for treasure. Two ruthless men are also on the hunt, and they will do anything to eliminate the competition. To survive, Death and Wren must solve two mysteries spanning a century and a half and outwit a pair of cold-blooded killers.

Great Book, Great Narration

What did you like best about this story?

It really is a great story. Entertaining, and one of the most interesting heroes I've come across in a while.

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

She one of my favorite narrators. I'll buy an audiobook from an author I don't know (as was the case here) if her name is on the cover. That said, when she was doing the auction calls it was really painful.

Any additional comments?

Loved the book and I'm looking forward to reading or listening to this author again.

Handsome Marine turned PI in Fun Murder Tale

Death (pronounced Deeth, as in Teeth) and the Readheaded Woman, is a great listen . . . Wren, (the redhead) goes into the old mansion to inventory the antiques for the auction house she works for . . . but instead finds a dead man . . . Not too long, and then along comes Death . . . disabled war veteran, starting up his business as a private investigator (and bounty hunter) . . . and the two begin the search for the killer . . . and the long lost jewels . . . you get to know and like the people in the little town of East Bledsoe Ferry, Missouri . . . and you learn all about them . . . the good, the bad and the ugly . . . and especially the funny . . . Just the right amount of romance develops between Wren and Death . . . (I am not a fan of steamy sex scenes) . . . the attraction develops, with a sweetness and gallantry . . . the murder mystery, two sets of missing jewels and back story of Death and Wren, make for a great book . . . can't wait for the next book . . .

Enjoyable

If you've ever listened to Molly Harper with Amanda Ronconi narrating, then you will relate to this book. It's written like a Molly Harper story in my opinion, which is not a bad thing. Has it's share of humor along with a mystery unfolding. A rather predictable mystery at that, with all the clues easily read. An enjoyable weekend listen, but I didn't care for the cliffhanger. Although, it did seem to give you the feeling that this was unfolding as a series book, with the ending clarifying that suspicion.

What made the experience of listening to Death and the Redheaded Woman the most enjoyable?

The characters are easy to like. Death and Wren each have had some heartbreak but still look at life with courage and humor. I was torn at times between laughter and tears. Add to that a large, goofy extended family and a couple of murderous villains to liven up the way as they try to solve two mysteries and you have a really good read.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The story had enough mystery, suspense, and enjoyable characters to keep me on the edge of my seat and awake long after I should have been sleeping.

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

Everything. Amanda Ronconi is an excellent reader. I have enjoyed her readings of Molly Harper's books and was glad to find her again here.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. If I had been free to do nothing else, I probably would have.

Meh....

2 1/2*. While I did finish listening to this book its only because I had to find out who done it. The characters and the plot were a little thin and the sex that two virtual strangers were having did not add to the story. The ending was not bad but still all in all corny.

Great listen, lightly entertaining!

Where does Death and the Redheaded Woman rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's right up there among my favorites

Who was your favorite character and why?

Death. Death's background was so unexpected and I loved how he was still ready to take everything on, but didn't refuse help.

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Can't imagine anyone else reading this. Her voices are right on.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me laugh out loud many times.

Any additional comments?

I am anxiously awaiting Ms. Ross' next book.

Great setting and characters

The wife and I listened to this during a driving vacation. We knocked it out and both really liked it. A mystery novel with some humor and some action.

Well written, great characters!

Great story, great twist on the PI, different setting, unique characters. The only down side was the bodice-ripper aspect of it, which honestly wasn't needed (IMHO). Other than that though - very enjoyable, well paced, fun geeky history stuff.
