Harrowing but very good

What did you love best about Death Dealing?

The dust cover says it all: the traumatic encounter of innocent families with evil criminals, and the valiant cops that try to deal with a tsunami of crime. very well written and very well performed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Death Dealing?

The scene in question with the family was very, very powerful and emotionally gripping.

Which character – as performed by Ian Patrick – was your favorite?

Actually, the character of Mavis was great. I liked her a lot. But Jeremy Ryder is the real hero. An action man like Jack Reacher, all the way. With a no-nonsense wife to keep him in check. And both support my rugby team so what's not to like?.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Good against evil in the fists of a no-nonsense detective.

A great scene with the dog at the end.

Shocking and very plausible

This was thrilling. A very shocking story about brutal crime - and not a word of it is exaggerated, I can assure anyone who wants to know, because I live in the country where it all takes place.

The narrator does a good job with all the accents. Perhaps a bit too rushed in parts but always very convincing.

Ryder is a great cop. Strength to his arm (or fists, really). We need more characters like him to deal with the scary violent criminals on the streets. This is vigilante justice from the pen of a writer who clearly knows what he's talking about.

Yep. That scene did it to me. For sure.

Very, very, very good.

Very exciting and sometimes traumatic

I haven't heard many but this was really excellent

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are so believable and the action is very compelling

Which character – as performed by Ian Patrick – was your favorite?

Mavis was the best. I loved her. Then the villain with the matchstick in his mouth was fascinating.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I was happy to listen to it over three or four days too.

Detective Ryder and his wife - oh, and his dog - are lovely.

Best of the series

Where does Death Dealing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top of the rankings in my experience. I read the first three books in the series and then listened to this while reading it. Great book.

What did you like best about this story?

The balance between revenge and justice is acutely observed and difficult to handle, but the author is spot on in showing the dilemma.

Have you listened to any of Ian Patrick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the best of the four.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The attack on the family and the aftermath, when Ryder deals with it, is brilliant and very moving.

Very true to life and very excitingly created.

Terrifying and real

I live in this province and I was amazed how realistic this was. This kind of awful crime goes on all the time, all around us. It is terrifying. These cops are brilliant - like so many of the cops on the job around here. I admire them. The villains are too, too, horrible to contemplate. What a thriller this was. I will read more of this author. The reading was very good, although I think he does the male voices better than the female ones. But still, very good indeed.

If you could sum up Death Dealing in three words, what would they be?

Emotional roller-coaster

What was one of the most memorable moments of Death Dealing?

The last chapter, without doubt. There is a devastating scene that will have you sitting bolt upright.

What does Ian Patrick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Nice easy fluid narration and very good accents

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, although I didn't because of other interruptions.

Really, really, really good.

Shocking and gripping

If you could sum up Death Dealing in three words, what would they be?

Shocking, gripping, realistic. The action is just like real life and I know people who have suffered the same trauma at the hands of terrible criminals.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Death Dealing?

The scene with the family - the mother and the father - after the bad event, was very moving and very realistic.

Have you listened to any of Ian Patrick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I don't know his work.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Crime reflecting the real world.

Any additional comments?

The story is really exciting. One hopes all the time that the good guys will prevail over the very, very bad guys. Cliff-hanger excitement.

Very scary and well written

I just listened to this again some two years after I first heard it (and then read it). I listened again because I read news reports about this kind of crime and they rang a bell. Very scary, very cruel and very shocking but very uplifting, too. The police men and women are superb and the characters are quite compelling.

I first listened to this book in the car on a long journey and it was most intriguing and professionally executed. Now I've listened to it in bed and it's even more scary. I love thrillers like this.

I've also seen that he writes short stories and I've been listening to them: very different and funny.

Terrifyingly real

The realism was almost too much to bear. I've had experience of this kind of trauma.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. Thrilling. Exciting. Tense. Above all, realistic.

What about Ian Patrick’s performance did you like?

He gets the accents just right.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was very moved in one part. I won't spoil it for others, but it was really awful. Awfully good, that is.

Fiction or fact? Hard to tell the difference these days. So real.
